Spotted a Mayser landing today from a my new acquaintance Helmut in Vienna Austria!! 2 1/2 brim, 5 3/8 open crown, felt like butter, freshly steamed (Customs inspected and re-packaged), and ready to sit upon my noggin!! The anticipation was killing me (needless to say!) It was a challenge uploading 2 pics of inside! My first lid from the other side of the world!

Super find! It looks fantastic! Can you tell me what is says on the left side of the paper label ("Flaum")? If possible can you take a full photo of the label? My guess is mid 1950s. I downloaded the photos to my Flicker account posted them below. Can you post these on the German - Austrian thread?

I was looking at one similar! The the nap wasn't as long but the price was just a bit outta reach..for now!!

That is really cool!! While I have long and short hair finish on a few Homburgs and a couple of other hats.....(and I do like them a lot) ....I feel that finish really looks best on a western.........

Thank you sir. I like a lot about this hat, long hair finish, shape, size and color. And I agree the long hair does go well with the western style. I do really like my long hair Knox fedora too, though, so I think it can work well with either style.

Keep up the search, I think you would look good in a long hair. And they do show up on the cheap once and awhile.

Another great green hat you have added to your collection today as well. I remember seeing that one listed.

Thanks Michael! I do have a weakness for fuzzy green (and brown, black, grey...) hats!
I believe I have seen one other hat online, can't remember where, that was Hopoka. I had no luck in researching it either.

Picked up this Solar Straw at the city run rummage sale today.

No idea what Hopoka is.

Nice research Doug. I see Penney's kept that $1.98 price point in their advertising from at least 1929 until 1959, based on ads I've looked at. I know very little about the different straws. I can say mine is a 2x2 weave, I think, if that tells anything. That's a beauty that TC has up. But I'm happy with mine at a 50% discount from retail.

Stetson Twenty - Five Open Road

Mostly dry now after a steam & sponge bath yesterday. Just playing around with a few dry center creases to see what I like. I may end up giving it a gas bath when the weather cools before giving it it's final crease.

In natural light the ribbon and binding are a light silver green.

You know, they do a twisted weave in Cuenca, Ecuador, too. It looks like your has a bit of shellac/stiffener added to the straw so it's hard to tell but do you think it's toquilla straw, or something else? It looks like a nice hat, in any event.

I know little about the manufacturer but I'm guessing, like Borsalino, the age is hard to determine from its parts as taped sweatband seams, labels with hand written ink markings, etc. likely continued for some time in the post war era. Very knowledgeable seller called it 1930s, I think 1940s - 1950 is more likely. It is a beautiful little survivor to be so clean and fresh in an off white color. 2 1/8" brim, 5 1/2" crown, a very soft and thin sweatband reminiscent of a late 1930s early 1940s Stetson Playboy or Stratoliner. The hat weighs in at 2.4 ounces. 7 1/8 fits true to the American specs for this size.

These are three hats I picked up at an auction over the weekend. Moth bitten and sized to fit my wife or daughter. At $30 total I can use the boxes and they can wear the hats.
