Here is the last hat I've bought. It's a french hatter who did it for me, Fernand Sebbah, alias DBM.

I will post photos of me wearing it in the next few days.

7X Beaver Stetson 50

This is my recent e-Bay win and a very good deal I think; a Stetson 50 7X Beaver western. It had a center dent and no side dents when I received it and I have steamed most of the dent out. I am not sure what I will do with it but the 3" brim and that tall 6" open crown beg for a cattleman's crease. The felt is stiff like a western hat but it is very dense, not particularly thick, and velvety. The ribbon is ultra-thin (one ligne?) and the ends need a slight trim. Based on Dinerman's size tag dating thread, I would say this is a 1960s hat.

It's nice to hear that French hatter still exist. Most of the time I see hat shop but not hatter.

The last in my area retired last year and the nearest hat shop now is at 80km from where I live

Yes, it was difficult to find a hatter! I thought that, living in Paris, it would be easy to find more than hat shops (in Paris the main hat shops are Borsalino, Céline Robert, and Anthony Peto), but I was mistaken and had to search hard to find THE hatter (in the sense of craftsman, not just vendor).

I am very glad to have found DBM, because Fernand Sebbah is very patient and since he makes the hats himself, he is very sensitive to the needs of his customers. I discussed with him for a while in his workshop to explain what I was looking for, and I have to say that I'm more than happy with the resulting hat and the delay! :)

David Morgan Panama Hat

I received my new Panama from David Morgan, what I'm assuming is a brisa weave Cuenca. I don't care, really, I'm more about ventilation, not weave count per square inch. ;) It's a nice looking hat, very light and comfortable. Cloth sweatband. At first the brim did not want to stay down and would snap back up in front at the slightest provocation, but I steamed it and finessed it a little and got it to stay where I wanted it. There's a wire in the brim, which helps.

It had a "Made in USA" tag, meaning blocked in USA, I imagine, as it is woven in Ecuador. I'm pretty sure it's a Capas, made for the David Morgan company, complete with a David Morgan pin, which I might remove.

David Morgan ships fast, by the way. I just placed the order a couple of days ago. I was expecting maybe Monday at the earliest, so this was a pleasant surprise.

My new eBay finds

A cheapy new panama I got off eBay, but I like it. It'll last me for the summer.

And then a nice hardly worn Stetson Rancher that makes me look like a used car salesman. I'm going to convert this to something.

Ending on a high note...

At the end of a week I would rather not have to refer to ever a final reprieve arrived at the very end with the receipt of friday's post.
This very nice, and much overlooked in ebay I would have to think, offering from the Gun Club:
Very high memory in this green-grey felt. If you bend it hard it looks like cardboard would and holds that shape well until it returns to what it seems to have been stored in for a very long time. Maybe it had been put into a box just a little too small and the sides want to curl up a bit, rather like an outback style brim. I'll have to dig out the brim moulds and steam/store a while to get what I want from it.
The texture is that soft suede feel to the finger and very pleasing although not thick and soft but rather thinner and firmer with a sensual tendency.
2-5/8" brim, crown 4 X 3-5/8 creased as shown
Style - Spring Creek
Colour - Moss
and except for being poorly stored somehow for some time it is a clean/sweet little find :D

I searched far and wide to find this hat. I finally gave up on finding a hat like this in the US and found a vendor in Italy. I found it here:
http://www.cappelleriamelegari.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=81&products_id=221

The hat is water repellant, no liner, and has a cloth sweatband. The best part though is the fact that the brim is 2 1/2 inch. I could not find a wide brim hat like this. So I had it flown in from Italy. It is a medium grey. Very lightweight. They have light greys coming in October.

I like all hats, but Borsalino is one of my favourites because for head is like a hand in a glove and you can go any place with it. Good election

Borsalino Traveler, made in Comombia, South america, 100% hair rabit, beautiful and deep blue navy color, (can not be well apreciated in picture), I change leather and put ribbon, the sweat band is genuine leather.
The incredible is the cost, in Mexico City: 890 mexican pesos (75 u.s) with this high quality.:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

That hat is a very rare find my friend. I have never seen a Borsalino Traveler just like it before. I like it very much. You have a very nice collection of hats.

Did the store you purchased this hat at have different colors? I enjoy seeing different colors and varieties of Borsalinos. Borsalino makes a large variety of styles and colors. Unfortunately, not all of them are offered for sale here in the US. If they are, I don't see them. I own many Borsalinos and all of them fit so very nice.

Congratulations on your excellent purchase!
