carldelo, yes I see that Bencraft has a better selection of Borsalinos than many shops. I do not believe the hats they offer in six colors is the same. Theirs comes open crown, mine did not. Mine has a cloth headband, very lightweight, no liner, and stamped Water Repellant. I believe those that Bencraft is offering does not have those attributes. Correct me if I am wrong.

Sounds like the hats are pretty different animals - funny how that happens, even with the same model name. I can't imagine why manufacturers do that.

If you find time would it possible to take some pictures behind (pulled up) the sweatband? Interested in his contruction methods. Thanks!

I will take some pictures. I can't in the following days, but I will do that next week-end!

I agree with you completely. To make things more difficult, some of the vendors do not give very good descriptions. Finding just the right hat is hard work ! ;)

Wild silk is gathered from cocoons that silkworms produced in a natural uncontrolled environment. Congratulations! on your new bespoke hat! ;)

Thanks for the information! The lining of my hat is effectively wild silk!

This is personal, but I hate cloth sweatbands. I have two hats, one a Stetson panama and the other a tweed walking hat, but both have a tendency not to stay in place, and they slip around (and I don't use Pennzoil on my hair either!).
I've always had happy results with leather sweatbands, and I won't buy any more hats without making sure they don't come with a "comfortable cloth sweatband".

Borsalino

Not sure what is going on with the New Vintage thread so I will post this one here too.

This is a beautiful pre WII Borsalino made for the German market (size 6 Punti) that arrived today. It might be late 20s according the owner. The hat is in great condition and fits perfect. It holds a very special meaning to me based on a personal story / history I was told about it. I will show more in the Borsalino thread.

My deep green Borsalino

That I just received from Bill here on FL. Too late for pics in the sun, but here's a quick one in the bathroom. That color is no where near the real color. Nice plush felt, I love it!! :eusa_clap
