Here's a strange one - Optimo-style Bankaru straw. I thought I would have it up-sized by Optimo for my own wearing, but seems kind of criminal to mess with it - there can't be too many of these around. Fairly tight weave, kind of a shellacked look:

Lovely dense felt and a distinctive ribbon.

2" brim
5" uncreased crown
1 3/4" dark brown sweat

That Knox Premier and this Dobbs are really nice. I like the Knox particularly. :eusa_clap

Another impulse at minimum bid on eBay:

The coal black felt's wonderful - infinitely malleable with a surface like a rose petal. The ribbon's what led to the impulse buy. But I'm not used to anything this flagrantly stingy!

I think a man would never give such a flowery description of any felt. I have to show your post to my wife, the 'Rose Queen'.

:eek:fftopic:

Our upstairs bathroom is decorated in very tacky roses themed wallpaper and linoleum. It will be the last room that we change ;) .

The guy who makes these replicas does a fine job and is a class act. Hand made by Richard Maldonado

1950's Pilgrim

Crown 5 3/4" (open), 4 3/4" (creased)
Brim 2 1/4"
Ribbon 2"
Binding 3/8"

Very nice felt, soft yet dense. It had a few spots and looked slightly wrinkled when I took it out of the box, so I gave it a Naptha bath and a good steaming which took care of those issues.

I do love those diamond creases of yours Mario.

How do you go about the naptha bath? Just dump the whole hat in a bucket full of the stuff?

I wonder what are the odds of that 'imported fur' coming from Australia. Many US hatmakers imported rabbit felt from Oz.

Yep. I leave everything in place, ribbon, liner and all. I just dunk it and let it rest there for a few hours.

:D Is it any good for removing the taste of 'Vegemite' from ones tongue?

Great hat Mario! I'm going to have to try the Naptha bath some day.

Nothing High Pockets....but nothing...can remove that vile taste from your tongue.

I blame James L Kraft. I think it's America's way of keeping Aussies in subjugation.
