Today I made a spur-of-the-moment trip, my first of the fall season, to the Stetson Outlet Store in Garland, Tx. While browsing through the selection of fedoras, I found a bit of a rarity there; an immaculate black Stetson Pinnacle made of 100% beaver. To be immaculate was rare enough but the markings on the band were the real kicker. I was told that the company made six hats and sent to the President for him to select from, and then return the others. Apparently, this is one of the returns, a size 7, since Obama is a 7 3/8. I don't know whether or not it will have some value some day, but the person I spoke with said he had had several calls from people wanting to find one.

Wow! You might consider asking someone at Stetson to write a letter for you. Letters of Authenticity are usually worthless (based on my understanding of Antiques Roadshow;)), but in this case, it would be easy enough to verify it with Stetson.

One of these perhaps?
Hat for Obama

Might be worth sending him an email to see if he has one as well...

Outstanding treasure find! Last time I was in, they had jacked the price up to $99.95 for the Pinnacle. Is that what yours was priced at? :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Thanks all for the interest in the Pinnacle and its origins. I went to the website Billyspew provided and read through it. I believe it is far more likely that my Presidential hat is an overrun or possibly a second from the two thousand nine hats made for Hartford New York. If it is a second, it has an issue I cannot spot. I am going to try to contact Hatco on his thread here and see if he can shed some light on the hat and to see who I should contact for any documentation I might be given, if there is much value to it at all. If not, I have wanted a black Pinnacle since I found this site and I will wear and enjoy it.

J.T., $99.95 is the price of the Pinnacles there and also some of the best finished other styles. There were some hats in the Sovereign quality at $79.95 also, but most were at $59.95. I noted some of the Dobbs line and the Knox line had tall crowns and wider brims. I almost brought home a nice chocolate brown Dr. Knox with very thick, luxurious felt made for Levine's but I managed to resist for now. It had a great semi-sueded sweatband that stayed perfectly in place on your heat. We still need to get together with Carter and field trip over there one day this fall.

Dobbs Rainbow

This one came in today:
DobbsRainbow.jpg

(The picture is from the eBay auction. http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380160604933&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT)

While the auction was running, there was some confusion about the size of the hat. According to the seller, the circumference was 22" (or even less, as suggested in correspondence with interested Loungers). In fact, the hat measures as a true 7 1/4.

The colour of the felt is grey, with a green shade. Especially, the ribbon is spectacular. It's colour is inbetween purple and brown, and both sides of the ribbon have an embroidered edge. The brim has an overwelt, enriched with embroidered stitching. (More pictures to follow!)

The hat is clearly used, but in great shape. The felt is as supple as the felt of my Playboy.

And on top of all of this ... WOOWW!! ... it fits as if it was made for me. Boy, am I happy :) :)

P. & C. Habig Homburg 1961

This is a P. & C. Habig Homburg size 58cm from 1961. It has a some damage to the ribbon / bow from mis-staking but other than that it is in super condition. Also thinner ribbon and a little more side curve than usual. Might send it to Optimo to for a new ribbon/bow. More details on the other thread.
