I pulled two Stetsons out of the freezer today, one medium vintage, one modern.

First up is a Shudde Bros. (60s?) with a three cord ribbon. It has a little discoloration right above the knot on the crown but is in good shape overall.

The other is a modern Stetson Weekender in sage. I don't like it as much as I had hoped. Its a little rough but not terrible.

Great Shudde Bros. Are you going to keep the cattleman crease? ;)

Thank you, the Shudde Bros. looks petty much identical to an OR just with a different ribbon, but it's just marked as a 3X.
Yeah… I think for the most part hats of that era marked OR would have the standard OR ribbon. For my money though I think the tri-cord a bit of an upgrade. Great hat.

I have slowed down a lot my presence on the Italian and European hat market, every now and then I find something that particularly interests me
Blu Barbisio 1a.jpg
I have a Barbisio hat of the same color with a very slight difference in the finish of the felt. I don't wear this much because it's a little too wide for my head size, so I thought I'd get this one
Blu Barbisio 5.jpg
Barbisio Sportex size 6 1/2 or 60 centimeters is equivalent to 7 1/2 in the USA.
Manufactured in the historic factory of Sagliano Micca before the early 1980s with the great skill and degree of finish that characterized Barbisio production.
Blu Barbisio etichetta carta.jpg
"Ratinè" is the finish of the felt and "Lido" the deep blue color of the same, the ribbon is in perfect match with the deep blue color.
The other day, presenting it worn, I had made a bad translation of the term "Ratiné" so this morning I contacted a very dear friend who is an expert in fabrics who gave me the precise indications on the finish.
Blu Barbisio 7.jpg
Ratiné French word is "Long-haired wool or fur fabric" In the textile industry, machine used for napping fabrics, essentially consisting of a metal notch and a movable table which with different movements (rectilinear, circular, oscillating) gives the fabric, which passes under pressure , the various ratinating effects.
Blu Barbisio 4.jpg
These are the measures of the Barbisio: the brims are 6.5 cm long, the open crown is 14.5cm and the ribbon is 4cm.
It came in great shape and made me happy

I love blue hats :)

The good: I just got this hat that I think is the most beautiful hat I own. I’ve never liked brown hats much but this color combo just blew me away. I also have always wanted a 1940s Resistol non-Western fedora ala the Bogie ads. It’s a beautiful thing, fits perfectly (self-conforming!) and, married to a Kansas girl, gets extra points from me for hailing from the sunflower state.

The bad: heavy mothing. When I first started lurking on the FL I thought guys posting photos of themselves in moth eaten hats looked nuts. And now I’m one of them. Numerous divots on the crown and top of brim.

The ugly: total carnage on the bottom of the brim, shown here in raking light to bring out the damage.

When all is said and done it’s a gorgeous beater I will proudly wear around the neighborhood and out to a bar and not have to worry about keeping it pristine.

But if you see another one like this in 7 1/8–be sure and let me know!;)

I have a Resistol Regent (similar, I think, to the Monarch) and I love the way it fits.

Carlos Santana “Panama”
Two-tone straw weave
4 3/4 Crown - just over 2 inch brim
Fancy Liner and Sweatband Art

Every so often I’ve seen a lounger with one of these Carlos Santana hats with the super cool sweatband art and it really peaked my interest. I’ve kept my eye out for some time… but rarely do I find a CS that isn’t either fabric sweat.. or if it does have the cool leather sweat… the hat itself is just too far “out there” for me. And looking new… no luck either. Finally I came across this one in a style I am very comfortable with… that the seller made a very fair offer on.

So… here is the verdict. The leather sweat.. I believe is real at least as far as in say modern Hatco sweats are real leather. I’m sure it is probably made of that same stuff that might disintegrate under heavy use. As such I do not intend to use in that fashion. Either way.. the art is debossed into the band itself and not simply airbrushed. Which I think is nice. If this were a tighter hat on my noggin it might leave imprint. In addition to the sweat.. this one includes a quite fabulous liner. Not sure if it qualifies as a Lovely Liner.. but expect a post there. At some point it will likely get a new hat band.. ribbon or such. But for now… I’m quite happy with it as is. Absolutely love the straw colors.

What can I say?? “Oye Como Va”
