But you know guys who can and willThey are, but it's kind of odd I bought all the hats I can't or usually won't wear: a green one, a backbow and two that aren't my size!

Love that tight d'orsay curlSecond one.
Battersby bowler in black. Size 58 (7 1/8 English), but it seems a bit smaller than that. Great smooth finish to the felt, so it's a fur felt one. Feels lighter than it actually is at 144 grams. Difficult to date this one, but based on liner, tight brim curl and sweat I'd say forties, late thirties maybe. This one was used as a riding hat at one point: there was a ribbon in the box it came in and on both sides of the sweatband some stitches have been cut to accommodate it.

A milan weave(?) Stetson Premier Open Road.
Outstanding find Randy. Looks to be 40s to me.Ok friends, give me some feedback. I picked this one up at an antique mall for a bargain price - the magic combination, right! (@Bill Hughes on Montgomery at I-20, Fort Worth). A milan weave(?) Stetson Premier Open Road. This hat has not traveled far as I bought it within a few miles (perhaps even a few blocks) of where it was originally sold, Cox's Department Store. Cox's (1933 - 1981) was one of the old, family owned department stores we all remember from the 40s thru the 80s. The hat is very soft, 5 inch crown and 2 7/8 brim and a traditional thin ribbon. I am trying to be gentle with the stitching but I can't see or feel anything under the sweat except the leftover portion of the size tag (it has to be a 1/8 as it fits me perfectly). A few nibs in the straw, a few "rust spots", and a slightly discolored ring around the crown where I suspect someone had stacked another hat on top of this one in the past. The brim has a deeper cup (flange) than the equivalent felt ORs but I suspect that has more to do with characteristics of the straw than the actual flange when manufactured. No evidence of a liner and whatever patch or label that was on the inside of the crown is lost to history. No sweat stains and the lettering is still crisp so I doubt this one has had much head time. What is a good date based on the fonts and OR logo? Early 50's?
(I have a close cousin to this hat in a fedora I picked up from Brent @deadlyhandsome (I think) several years back. I'll post pictures of the pair in a few days.)

Congrats on winning that one on the Bay. Looks real nice. Great colour.Sometimes even a noob like me gets lucky now and then, and I think I did on this one. Picked up this premier quality Adam Pacesetter in "gravel tan" on ebay for a song, and I was in love the moment it touched my lumpy skull. I know the executive quality is supposed to be nicer, but this seems like a very fine lid. No idea of the age...maybe one of you veterans can help me out on that. I'm thinking '60s or maybe even late '50s? But for all I know it could be newer than that.
