It’s a very common, but definitely not universal, phenomenon, that men who stick with hat wearing gravitate to the wider brims over time. I like most all widths in the right circumstances.

Art Fawcett / VS Custom Hats off the Goodwill site. Way too big for me (~24.5” circumference) so will be sale or trade bait after the Holidays. 2-1/2” brim and 4-1/2” crown height as creased.

My search for a vintage Panama in my size continues. The Lee didn’t fare too well with the soaking that FedEx subjected it to by leaving it on the porch during a 3” rain (before my daughter rescued it a few hours later). It may bounce back. How hard would it be to slip it into a plastic bag?

There were a couple other beater hats in the auction lot with the Lee Panama. These were both size 7-1/2, so they fit.

I don't know spit about real Panama hats so please excuse me if this is a dumb suggestion. But couldn't you dunk or spray the hat to get it wet and re-shape it? I mean, if you're already willing to write it off, what do you have to lose?

Thanks guys. It will be fun to try. There are two spots on the Mallory where the straw has split and I’ll have a chance to try different repair methods (one brim and one crown).
