For 25-cents I couldn’t leave it in the thrift store. Especially with that store price tag. It seems like pretty nice felt. Must have been for a kid as it was padded with four paper towels and a horse show flyer from 1977.

Size is 5 so a tight 57cm
I console myself with a pair of hats that are coming and others of my size resting here ready for photos.
For those who have these sizes and love Italian hats, it's time to start thinking
In the next days more accurate and dettailed pictures, now the light is vanishing
Excellent finds, Joe. I just want to pet that white long hair, then put it back in a cage.Borsalino Antica Casa - white long hair
The first of two wonderful Borsalino Antica Casa rollable hats that arrived yesterday.
This hat is EXTREMELY soft... and somewhat floppy. Almost blanket like. Seems virtually no stiffener in the felt at all. It will however hold its shape fairly well with the brim up
The texture is super fuzzy and soft.
As others have mentioned these were intended to be removed from their coffin boxes after shipping and blocked into shape. However these hats do have a grosgrain sweatband that leaves them very malleable and certainly can roll and unroll with ease
It is a size 4 or about 6 7/8 US size
Here is the manufacturer tag under the sweat
I’m sure purely unintentional.. when this hat was packed and rolled however many years ago... it was folded A bit off axis so if you crease it along that fold you end up with a bit of the “Indy” turn... though far from an Indy hat. [emoji38][emoji1787]
I really love the ribbon on this hat
It has a dashed gradient pattern that sort makes a greenish line towards the middle of the ribbon when viewed at a distance. Kind of hard to capture in photos though
The white long hair felt does have a few spots that are bit tan in color. I imagine this from aging though it could have been that way originally.
Overall I am very happy and somewhat pleasantly surprised with both of these little gems.
Best,
Joe

Four Barbisio in one fell swoop, it is not everyday.
New and never worn with the dust of time and still the shop's internal labels.
Barbisio has always had two extremes in its production: the immanent classicism and the absolute novelty. Today we start with a super classic

Barbisio Classic. Qualità Extra Extra size 5 or 57 cm
View attachment 206135
The color of the felt is "Cufra" and the finish is "Semiruvido"
View attachment 206136
View attachment 206137
The felt is slightly rough, as stated in the paper label, and consistent has wool inside
View attachment 206138
The shape is that of a homburg without the brim finished with ribbon
View attachment 206139
Finished with extreme elegance
View attachment 206140
In front of the sweatband is embossed the type "Classic"
View attachment 206141
It is very similar to the Cervo-Tenisci which is now in the Steur collection
These are the measures: the brims are raised and measure 5 cm., the tribbon is 4.5 cm. and the open crown is 13.5 cm.

The Italian hat industry has always participated with special editions in the major sporting events that took place in Italy, occasionally the hats of the 1960 Rome Olympics and other events appear on the market. Barbisio with the Sportex line seems to have made his contribution to the 1956 Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo
We are in the "experimental and innovative" production of Barbisio
Barbisio "Sportex" size 5 1/2 or 58 cm.
Felt is a very rough mixture, as stated on the paper label and has the particularity of being moldable at any time.
The color is what you see, a deep green that probably wants to remember the conifers in the Dolomites
There is a very long concentric seam that starts from the crown and goes up to the brims, which have circular seams.
The effect of the whole is somewhat bizarre
Felt is called "misto ormea" and the finishing "Ruvido"
The finishes are fantastic and there are the Olimpics circles
The measures are the following: short brim at 4 cm. high crown opean at 14 cm. and the ribbon is a piece of felt finished with a false button
Another classic Barbisio that we have seen other times here on the lounge
Barbisio Titan Qualità Superlativa size 5 or 57 cm.
Under the name "Titan" Barbisio presented many models with felts of different finishes and colors, this is a true classic.
A hat with harmonious proportions and very well studied with a simple and profiled shape
Very well finished with the "Titan" embossed on the sweatband
This is a historical shape in the Barbisio production as the stamp with Sagliano Micca, a village near Biella, in the valley of Cervo
The felt is medium weight and very malleable as most of the Barbisio and Italian hats.
The color is "Maia"
The measures are the following: raw brim at 6.8 cm. high crown open at 13 cm. and the ribbon is 2,5 cm.
That's what I always assume.Could be. Another reason could be that the felt has shrunk somewhat, which also causes sweatbands to wave.
A 36 hat haul? Where'd you pick up 36 at once, Max?Came in with my latest haul yesterday. Only 36 hats this time. My next safe will have to stay in the garage.
I will spend all day cleaning and conditioning sweatbands and brushing and steaming the hats I think I can do myself. The rest will have to go to Ignacio.
The first one I'm doing is my second Dobbs Hankachif. A little stingy, but excellent felt.
I will give a report on the Nick fouquet next.View attachment 200745 View attachment 200746 View attachment 200747

Back in the day, many men tended to have their particular style chosen, then own a succession of that style in mildly different iterations based on fashion trends. Hatters would make suggestions based on their face shape and stature, but that may have been clever marketing, or maybe a way to help those timid spirits who couldn't make up their mind.[emoji1] Nah....

If it's a pre-owned hat, you can't necessarily blame the hatter (I can't believe I'm defending NF).I forgot to post these pics of the brim cut, look:
They are from three different areas. I think they were cut by hand.
