Starting to get the hang of this straw braid hat making thing. This one in brown hemp with striped grosgrain ribbon. I made this hat for my 86 year old father who hit the pinnacle of his own personal style in the 1960's and pretty much just stayed with that. When I look at this hat I think of Florida retirement communities.

^ edit // referring to early info mentioned below

should be 1956, complete guess based on quik quak google. earlier kirsops i found were top hats with a perhaps silk liner and different use of the crest, alleging to be much older. This feels more modern. The company was wound up in 1956 according to this: http://www.housefraserarchive.ac.uk/company/?id=c1375 . There are other links which suggests kirsop was a hat firm for perhaps hundreds of years before it was incorporated, so i'm guessing the older use of liner and crest was pre 1920s and this one after that. Then the glued in liner just feels more modern.
hey for all i know house of fraser, who bought them out, has a kirsop line, and it was made last christmas.

Osna "Sparta", 58cm, Wolfsram/Tungsten, NOS probably 1950s. This hat is very stiff and was machine formed. It's Wool but might have Casein and is heavily impregnated. I really like finding low price point hats like this one. It's NOS but has some moth / insect issues. There is no company mark on the paper label so I am thinking "Osna" (a German city / town) is a trademark for a distributor like Friedrich W. Schneider who are still in business today (own the Stetson trademark for Europe).

Steve, another lovely find. I really like the colour combination on this one and it's always nice to see the older hats that maybe are not so high end. The designation "sonderanfertigung" means it was specially made. Makes me wonder for which occasion or which store.

Stefan, Thanks! I also don't know the fur content of this hat. I think it's wool but there is something else in the mix (Casein?). It might be that it's heavily impregnated. I have other older hats that are like this and some have almost a rubber feel. Here is the background on the hat. Another no company mark on the paper label.

"Yes that was an old textile business (about 200 years old) with us in place, the owner has died and left the home club in Bippen the is located in Lower Saxony / district Osnabrück the business house and the inventory. Now we are trying to sell everything by and by.
It was a wealthy business house of the legacy has also gone a great part to the USA.
