Well, here are two found on one of my weekend treasure hunt drives.....Both are Lion brand hats.....(later Beaver Brand). The Whippet clone is a very unusual color and a 7 1/2.....sweat is very stiff and put on with no reed.......grey is a cross between a playboy (ribbon) and a Stratoliner (narrow bound edge) clone and in the best shape overall.....sweat is in great condition and has the onionskin behind it.....size large 7 3/8. Both are project hats hat and do exibit some mothing......both need their linings at least pressed.....
Not sure if I will resize the grey.....
Cheers,
M
PS: Colors are represented pretty well.......

These are great finds. A little TLC and they will be top notch. Interesting, I thought the Beaver name went way back.

Well, the company seems to go back to 1860 as proudly proclaimed in some of thier logos......note the almost identical logos for Beaver Brand and Lion. The company seems to always be based in St Louis as it still was when bought by HatCo....

I'm not at all certain that Beaver/Lion was purchased by Hatco_Others here may have a better memory but I believe the company folded several years ago and tools, goods in process and stock were auctioned.I believe that Rusty and Major Moore hauled quite a load away from the sale.

You are right.....they simply closed and were auctioned......for some reason I thought they were bought out like many others.......they were bought and owned for a short period around 2000 by
The American Hat Company out of Texas (probably why I was thinking HatCo) but apparently went back to the bank in just a few years and then they were auctioned just four years ago in 2013.........I had thought it longer ago........
Thanks for setting the record straight!!
Cheers,
M

pretty excited about my latest acquisition.
One... because it is like nothing else I own
and two... because it is a pretty rare model

1950s Stetson Railbird

I bought this from a man named Al who lives in Denver and in the mid 1950s worked at the store marked on the sweat.
He was given this hat... and others... as a gift from the man he worked for but Al didn't care for hats so he never wore them.

I'm honored to be the first to crease this hat

I was wondering when we would see more of that! What beautiful color! Unbelievable that it went unworn.

Gorgeous and unique. The heathered felt looks dense. How did it handle?
