Here is a sort of new hat.....one I completely forgot I had, found it when going through some boxes in the closet....my closet is much like Fibber McGee's ......(be interesting to see who all understand that referance).
It is a nice comfortable Stetson straw....not sure of the vintage.

Often it is my curiosity for Italian or European production of vintage hats the reason that pushes me to buy not in my size hats.

The opening of the package does not presaged nothing good. The greatest object of my desire, the Homburg "rat-gondin" was still with factory protection, but totally covered with the dust of time.

Steam, brush and sponge gave new life to him and his cronies.
These Barbisio, both produced in Sagliano Micca, before the close of the historical plant, particularly interested me for two reasons:
a) it is very hard to find homburg branded Barbisio. Even more so with indicated the origin of the fur that makes them.
In this case "rat-Gondin" or Nutria, called in this way from this side and the other side of the Atlantic

b) the perfect brother in the shape and color of the G.B. Borsalino fu Lazzaro I showed you a few weeks ago.
This is the twin with Barbisio brand

As often happens my regret is given by size, both are 58 cm or 7 174 US.
Blessed are those who have the smaller head!!!

Beautiful! Why are the Barbisio Homburgs so rare?

Because the Borsalino had the "property" here in some parts of the Europe of the high end formal hats.
The Italian competitors were unable, in some ways, to contrast the super power of Borsalino
The last but not least, Homburg had a limited market so the Italians producers fought the battles on others fields.
I never saw a Panizza homburg and once, thanks to Steve (mayserwegener), a Cervo.

It is a modern homburg that I feel will be quite a serviceable headpiece.

This hat is supple yet sturdy. It appears to have come off of the Stetson assembly line, as it feels like royal deluxe quality felt, and it has the exact same appearance and dimensions as the new Stetson St. Regis.

Very nice, Dlaniger. I didn't realize it was new production over in WHAYWT. Where'd you pick up a new Knox? I saw some at the Garland outlet last January, but they were pretty much all junk. Some of the worst sweatbands I've seen. That looks like a nice quality hat.

I got the Hat from JJ hats in NYC. From all appearnce it's a Stetson with a Knox label. It's a solid hat. Some of the purists may beg to differ, but all in all I am satisfied.

The crown is a 6 inches which leaves room for a tighter pinch and deeper frontal crown 'point' (inspired by TJones) Still having fun with this beauty! Thanks Cindy!

After a session of searching boaters, my mother approached me, if she could have one as well? I was so happy that, I even bought her one with my own money...... (My late mother's day present, I gave her roses but guess the hat should fill it up)

I bought her a Olney Headwear Co. Black Band Boater from Ebay waiting patiently for my Stetson medalist and Olney. Yay, now I technically own 2 Olney boaters....

Ooh, that's how it starts. The next thing you know, her hat collection will rival yours. You'll find yourselves bidding against each other on evilBay for the same hat. Then you'll buy a hat just so you can say you have one more than she does, and vice-versa. Then it's, "Oh, can I borrow that one?", and your collections get intermingled to the point that you can't remember which hats are yours and which are hers.

Or not; it's up to you.
