been looking for a vintage one that will match ... or at least blend nicely with the subtle color of the hat

Moon, did you look into the cover buttons? A bit of matching ribbon cut to size and you're there. The cords colors are the hard part.

Yeah, you cut off a small piece of ribbon, place it on the button cover, press it into the back and, viola! Trolley button that matches your ribbon.

Lol. I drive by one of those stores daily to and from work. Can I help...? Dont kno if they stock em at the stores.

They do here, but they don't carry the right size here (#18), so I get them on Amazon. You have to get the kit, though to get the little plastic doodad that presses the button together.

Guys, thank you SO MUCH for the compliments. I greatly appreciate it. Not quite a vocation, yet, but it's definitely therapeutic. I've enjoyed the local response from friends and co-workers, and it's a real pleasure to hand off the hats in person. I'm honored to display them on the 'Lounge.
