Possible ban on me from The London Lounge

I'm a member of The London Lounge (joined because it looked interesting and also to drum up some members for The Old Fedorians London Dinner last November).

I posted my nearly new Hackett Tweed gentleman's jacket there a few days ago, as I thought that some there might be interested in having such a 'top drawer' garment.

Next thing I know, the entry has been removed and I can no longer log in! (and boy have I tried!).

They seem to pride themselves in being 'gentlemen,' yet at no point have I had communications over 'why' this all might have happened!

Anyone else shed some light on this group and why this might have happened. Frankly I'm interested, but no great loss to me if they don't want this simple Irishman in their ranks.

Hi Paddy-

Maybe Hackett is not appropriate faire for a bespoke environment... too 'High Street'.

Or maybe they have a policy against members trying to sell on the forum... and the like.

Either way, I'd say you've made a serious breach in Etty-Quetty.
I'm a member their too,
have been for some time but I have never posted a message.

They obviously regard you as being too ordinary Paddy - God alone knows what they'd make of me in that case !!!!!!!:eusa_doh: Don't lose any sleep over it - as you say, it's no great loss to you. I hate attitudes of superiority with a passion, no one person is greater or lesser than the next. We are all unique individuals with different gifts and abilities

Told ya so !!!

I've just had a quick look at their 'site' and below is a 'lil snippet of what they have to say

If the good tailor sought to make of every easy client an enlightened and demanding one, a Niven, Grant or Astaire, it would be a bit counter productive for him, not to mention an enormous waste of precious time and energy. Time and energy he would not then be able to offer his most interesting and creative clients for those with taste, or the bothersome ones who have none. And would the easy client really feel better off in a sartorial treasure, a double breasted fit for a David Niven? I am not all that sure he would even notice the difference.

If that isn't a superior and condescending attitude then I sure as hell dunno what is !

It's true that tailors, like all creative people, enjoy challenges that go beyond the norm ... and more often than not, it is the creative, discerning customer who provides his tailor with those challenges.

Aside from that, the rest of the snippet above is, as a London Lounger might say, "convoluted balderdash".

Lurker

This is the main reason I've only been an occasional lurker there. Nothing worse than a group of fellows who fancy themselves to be superior without a dot of supporting evidence.

I was one of the first members there and they tend to run it like an old English club where they expect a decorum of their members that is... well elitest without being ashamed.

They are suit conosuers and very much more into thread counts thatn many on this forum. Though they do lack much of what makes this place great, and that is in some cases knowledge, some cases style, some cases simply being somewhere for fun.

I visit there very infrequently,. They are people just like us... I just think sometimes people get caught up in keeping up appearances.

Fret not, Paddy - they are a poorer place for disabling your account.

I tried to register for that site and apparently I didn't make the grade, as my registration attempts went unanswered.

I suspect that LL isn't the place to sell goods. The fact that they have no area in which to do so is telling. They should have contacted Paddy, however, before removing his access.

A lot of the criticism in this thread, i must say, is overstepping the mark. The London Lounge is patronised by people interested in the bespoke menswear experience and, more importantly, by the people who make the clothes! Their advice, though put forward in a way that might be considered condescending (i feel it's more of a internet problem ... Lord knows, we've had the same problem here ... when ye can't see the face of the typer, you don't get what they mean, and misconstrue things), is second-to-none and is often invaluable for learning the process, and about how your clothes are made.

I've never considered them snobbish. Possibly not too good at putting their point across on the boards in a congenial manner, but incredibly knowledgeable and forthcoming with advice. There is bad advice put forth as definitive, but this is usually checked by someone more knowledgeable.

Some of their feature articles have been fantastic.

They appear to have no problems with colonials. There was a long discussion about tailors in New York, i believe. There are many American regular posters.
