I actually had a Dobbs CC lightweight a very long time ago as a youngster
there were too many 60s stingys around & I preferred the original taperless & tall stingys of the 30's & older
They were much easier to find 30 + years ago & I would flip the brim down all around & deep Butt Cheeks bash
man that was a good hat super squishy felt but held up strong
Maybe that's why im looking for one like guys buy the cars they grew up with at midlife, but everything I used back then was vintage..
ummm 2nd hand actually....

Jared yea your VS Black Cherry light a dam nice version is the ribbon a purple violet in 7/8"

Tom another great example of the later 40/50's VS Playboy I always get those vent holes too.

Another VS playboy with a few of my 2cent tweaks in Legacy black cherry
the air vents are there & the brim stiching in that fuzzy fur 50s specs on the brim 2 3/8" +, crown 5". 7/8 ribbon but with upkick

either way from the early to the late all Play Boys were good hats

Ed, yea a Light weight felt is a must for a custom mid 30s type
Im hoping a vintage will come up & I have my Bantam weights which are sorta close

For a while, there, Playboys even at size 6-7/8 and 7 were going for well over $100. Larger sizes were easily getting $300 and more. Not these days, though. That one above was the best price I've seen for a Playboy for a while. Over $230 was not bad at all.

I was watching that one, but "unwatched it when it got above $52....
Glad I didn't get wrapped up in the craziness. Especially since the seller told me the brim was 2"....

Wow, that's just crazy! I just bought this vintage Borsalino for $77.00 off of ebay and it's 3 times the quality of the 4 Playboys I have.

Bump
I love my late 40's to 50's Playboys & my Outstanding VS versions
But I have been looking for a original mid 30's for many moons
OK so in the past threads I did my homework & I can relax now in my quest for a mid 30's Playboy air-light
by using Google adding T F L 30's Playboy I found some good old stuff within these forum pages.
Found the specs & great detail pics of originals to the specific era .....

Passed the info on to Mike at NorthWest Hats
I am Satisfied

This thread needs a bump!
I don't think this Playboy was ever worn but it did spend a couple decades crumpled up in a closet or box.

I didn't go crazy trying to reshape this hat, just lightened up the worst of the wrinkles;

5 1/2 open crown 2 3/4 brim (was happy about that, thought the brim was smaller on these)

complete with it's price tag

The price and the stars in the logos makes me think mid to late 40's maybe early 50's
Very soft light weight, will be a good summer hat

Tommy; Patience pays off in dividends! That is a sweet vtg. Playboy. Desirable, excellent condition and a perfect felt color. "Bon vivants" can be worn comfortably all year long. I do enjoy the chameleon characteristics of the hat to work with country/city mixes of attire. I agree with your choice of crease - a bit informal gives the fedora an excellent character and presence.

I find them just the right "playful" dimensions.

Congrats and wear proudly, Eric -

Thanks for the kind words.

Rick, it is a light tan with little heather flecks in it. Slightly darker and more orange than silverbelly.
For comparison here it is next to a 50's Royal Deluxe Open Road

There is a richness to the color of these old hats that I haven't come across in new. Even light colors like this have a certain vibrancy.
