I've been thinking about that too, thinking that it would be very easy to end up with even more colors on the hat and the brim binding might detract from the hat overall. Even if one of the same color from the ribbon were used, smaller or larger pieces of the same color fabric can appear to be a different color than the comparison piece (in this case, the brim binding as compared to the ribbon). My first take is that it would look better by mimicking most Panama's where the hat is all one color and the colors and texture of the pugg becomes the focal point.

I was pondering this some more and thought also that the combination of browns as pictured above might come off better (to my eye) if there were a bound edge.

I also agree that a two tone ribbon would look great too.

I'll have you covered Jonesy. Figuratively and literally. You're proving what I already think, that no human being who lives where you live could possibly ever be in a rush. Oh, I almost forgot to mention your new delivery arrangement. The next time you're visiting the mainland I'll hand deliver your hat to the island. I'm just gonna need to know how long you'll be away and where you keep your spare house key.

Deal!

Geezy Pete's there buddy! You, all by yourself, could be Rick's retirement! That looks like it's going to be another big winner from the Phoenix Hat Company! Can't wait to see the finished product! It's looking good already!

Thanks, Terry. We’re trying to decide on ribbon and binding now. This could be my only 100% nutria hat so I don’t want to screw it up.

My personal motto is "Dare to Fail".

“Non audent.” Mottos should alway be in Latin. ;)

After a promotion I was gifted a plaque that was inscribed: “Semper in Rectam” (always correct) as I was the subject matter expert for my unit. It took my peers 10 seconds to change the pronunciation and meaning of “Rectam” and the plaque has been kept in a drawer ever since. There’s a 13 year old boy inside of every 40 year old man.

Man, I got way off on a tangent.

the 13 year old boy inside each of us.....that's the good news! Sheepishly I admit to taking Latin in school for 6 years.....

You can send it to me! I just got a brand new sewing machine off eBay that I'm learning to use. If you're not too picky I can sew some binding on it for you! I need the practice! :)

It all boils down to the learning curve Terry. Practice on your scrap brim trimmings, use cheap ribbon, and be prepared to throw a lot of it away. You'll be a master in no time.
