I don’t know what other colors are available, but I’d be interested in either of these from FEPSA:

Does that emerald gray look a bit like Winchester steel to you?

And the gray beige rabbit/hare, is that maybe a taupe shade?

I have a Hufvud FEPSA rabbit and hare blend in taupe. It’s a great color, but I don’t know what the FEPSA name for it is.

Yes, the emerald gray does resemble Winchester’s steel in the photo. I asked Mikael for photos of finished hats and he sent me to his Facebook page. It’s alright, but the hat colors are mostly unidentified. #hufvud on Facebook. The FEPSA brown rust is more to my liking than Winchester’s rust.

I wonder if he would sell me a hat body?

I like the FEPSA brown rust better, too. Hufvud's page shows a felt they call gray beige... maybe that's the taupe you got? Have we seen this hat you got from Hufvud?

... and they were all listed as CAMEL color. I'm not complaining mind you. The bodies available to me from FEPSA are limited and I'm thrilled to get three distinctly different colors.
(please excuse the crappy cell phone pics)

Boy, no wonder we have such a hard time pinning down colors! Even the manufacturers can't be consistent about it.

Did not some of our custom hatters here in The Lounge have recent trouble with Winchester felt colour? I recall reading about rejecting shipments due to inconsistencies in the run.
I've only sent a few back to Winchester and none for inconsistent dye color. The one's I've returned, including a recent Granite body, have been due to overaggressive factory sanding that penetrated the shellac core, causing light colored spots in the felts.

Art said Winchester rejected their own hats because the color didn’t come out. The last I heard of was the Dove gray.

Yes, I have a Winchester with that effect. I accepted the finished hat as it is my hiking/foul weather hat and the imperfections seem to fit.

Oh, heavens no! I would have told you....and I value your creations too highly to go hiking in them!!!!! That is why I accepted it as then I would not feel so compelled to treat the hat with kid gloves as it was already damaged.
Thanks for the kind words about my hats belfastboy. You know I'm just trying to make a good hat that's affordable and doesn't need to be treated like an investment. Some day I want to make one for a rodeo clown just to see how they hold up to prolonged abuse. Hatter's gotta have goals.

I then am not your ideal client. Being a guy who loves his "stuff" I tend to treat my things with kid gloves and preserve the newness of them. I had to buy a beater western Borsa so I had a knockabout outdoorsy hat. It was already beat up so I did not have to be precious with it....having said that it is now though in better shape than when I received it!

Uh-oh, now I feel a little like a rodeo clown. The first hat Rick built for me was specifically for wearing in the woods and in the canoe. To be fair, Rick knew it was going to be a beat-'em-up hat from the start, but he still put his best efforts into it. It was a beaver western-weight hat, and it has survived very well so far. I have managed to avoid being trampled by bulls in it so far (that was a different hat! )

The last two that Rick has built for me are dressier hats, but I'm certainly not afraid to wear them out in the rain or whatever. I'm sure they'll outlast me as long as I take reasonable care of them.

Y'all take care,
Regan

At my age everything except this ice cream cone is likely to outlast me.

I'm guessing you are referring to the one you did for me a few months ago? I had nearly forgotten that had happened. Thanks again for sending pics of what you were referring to. It was unfortunate that I had to wait just a little longer for a new hat body, but the wait was well worth it in the long run. Thank you for having high standards!
