I love my Indy "Skull" Everyman hat. I hate to even take it off. I originally ordered a custom Leverage/Kane but just couldn't wait 5- 6 months to have one of John's fine lids on my head. So the Everyman Indy was actually my 2nd hat ordered from John. Now with this pre-order I'm excited to order a 3rd Penman hat! All it takes is money. right?

The decision as to style, creases, etc. is the hardest part for me. I pass my grandparent's old house on 4th and Baseline in Cornelius, OR, as I drive to John's shop in Hillsboro and I think of my grandfather and the super cool gray fedora he used to wear when he dressed up in suit and tie.... so maybe something along those lines. I'll have to look at the pictures from their 50th wedding anniversary to see that hat again and recall the style.

Thanks, John, for great offerings so close to home!

That anniversary picture should be posted in the "Show us their hats" thread!

Rogera, I searched for those pictures last night and only found a picture of my grandparents outside with my Dad. Grandpa was holding a hat in his right hand but I can only see his hand and a very small portion of the hat. I emailed my siblings to see if I can find those pictures. I don't know if he had a Stetson Stratoliner, Saxon, Whippet or what. I just remember thinking, "Wow, grandpa looks so good," and I loved that hat.

Somewhere I have my old highschool ID card when I was a senior there. I recall wearing my gray fedora, given to me by an uncle, and wearing jeans, a white t-shirt, suspenders... and rove the '54 Ford pickup to school that day. I felt like I was "cock of the walk" that day. I lost that hat to my baby brother and we don't know where it is anymore. Bummer.

I wonder why it's taken me this long to get back into hats. I've always loved them...

New Year's Eve a couple years back. I was supposed to be Pablo Escobar. You can't see it, but I was lifting my shirt to show the pistol holstered there in my waistband. LOL.

And offered in my three very favorite colors! This is really a great deal from an excellent hatmaker and anyone who is "on the fence" about ordering their first (or second, third, fourth.....) custom hat should really consider this option. You will not be disappointed with any of John's creations!

Just a reminder, the Everyman line is not a Penman hat. A Penman hat is custom/handmade by my hands. The Everyman is a factory offering of mine. Even though the Everyman is a nice hat and a great deal for the price it still isn't a Penman hat.

When I say hand made I mean it's truely made by hand no automation at all. No electric blocking press, no pounced, no ironing machine and no sewing machine. Even my bound edge or welted edges are sew by hand.

I'm having trouble deciding what color and style I want my 2nd Everyman hat to be. I'm leaning towards a Casablanca or Marlo style hat, but what color??? I have the brown Everyman in the "Skull" style and I love it. I have the handmade Leverage/Kane ordered in Charcoal, 100% Beaver, expected sometime in December or January I'm guessing...

Whiskey, Granite, Dark Moss.... it's so hard to decide.

I hope I didn't add to the confusion when I posted about getting my "Penman Everyman" hat. I thought most folks on this forum would know the Everyman is your lower priced production line hat. I did show a pic of the sweat with the Everyman logo so maybe it was clear.

I've been waiting for this line to come out since John hinted at it (seems like years ago). I probably should have stated it as Penman's Everyman line as well. So I guess I probably added to the confusion also. Sorry.

John, I'm sure I missed this somewhere but what are the dimensions of the non-Indy (crown and brim)?

I hear my Everyman Raiders is waiting for me at the mail office with a £48 tax and handling bill. I hate taxes! Home on Saturday and really looking forward to opening the box! Question now is when does the Everyman Indy travel hat come on line?

Rogera: On the Penman Hats Facebook page I asked the same question. I believe John said about a 4-1/2" crown was possible and up to a 2" to 2-1/2" brim. I excited about it! I'm watching a movie called Winter in Wartime right now about Nazi-Occupied Holland during WWII and the mayor of the town is wearing a fabulous fedora with what looks like a C-crown or teardrop while his brother's fedora has a center dent.

This is the Penman Everyman "production" hat. Even for a factory produced hat, the quality is very nice and the price makes it a bargain in my view. I had John crease it in the fashion of the Indy 4 "Skull" hat. I love it. I hate taking it off and can't wait for my custom hat to come up in the que.

We were on our way to the medical lab, again, and I asked my wife to take this picture before we got in the car. Not so good news from the MRI but my rekindled interest in hats has me looking forward to what's next despite the damnable tumor.

Lovely hat. Unlovely tumor. Best of luck defeating it.
