USS Pampanito SS-383 made 6 combat patrols in the Pacific from 1943-'45.
She is now on display at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco.

I was amazed to hear that the submarine service had what was considered the best food in all the armed forces! Someone obviously understood the role of food in keeping men sane without sunlight, fresh air or privacy.

I remember taking a tour of this submarine when I was a kid! Wow, that was so long ago, I can't remember a bloody thing about it except for the torpedo tubes. I should check this out again some time.
