Well she arrived...and in a blind test my girlfriend confirmed that this is most definitely a Churchill 100 Vicuña Hat Box.

The hat she ranked as very nice but obviously and well below my Churchill 100, Stetson 7X, Stetson 40, Stetson 25, and Stetson 3X.

I tried, but win some.....lose this one

Good looking hat regardless. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Churchill box is more rare than the hat too. Does your other 100 have a box?

If we want an ebay complaint... I wish ebay would add a category for "fedoras." Having to wade through a thousand stupid baseball caps to see the few new fedoras posted is a pain and a waste of time.

Well, you can limit your search through the filters on the left, BUT, MANY people do not even know what a Fedora is let alone classify their listing with it.......and YES, I HATE all the ball cap listings.....ESPECIALLY under "VINTAGE HATS"!!!!!!!!!

When I’m really looking, I’ll have 100 saved ebay searches trying to catch everything. Some hats show up in several of the searches and some just in one.

Ebay can only be as accurate as the seller’s provided information so we all wade through lots of fluff looking for our gems. The good news is you sometimes come across great hats that have been misidentified and you can get great deals. How many of of have found the elusive “Borsolino,” or a “wool” 1950s Stetson Royal De Luxe? I think I still have an “old hat” that turned out to be a 1940s Dobbs. I do get frustrated when “vintage” is interpreted to mean hats from the 1990s and even later.

I like searches sometimes to include misspelled things and then there are the sparsely worded ones.
Got a great Dobbs “Fourty” once that way. And the old Stetson 7.5 turned out to be a Vita-Felt Stratoliner. Nobody else saw them. Just a thought.

Good point! have seen tons of misspelling that produced some nice hats. I got a couple of my Stingys 3X Stetsons that way, both cheap.

You nailed it. When one is really looking you use every tool available.

Rare and vintage are two words that are constantly overused, not only in this hobby, but in many of them. The key is to educate yourself on the hobby and when in doubt ask. I reach out to a couple of members in here that I know are knowledgeable and are always willing to extend a helping hand.

I don't buy for the sake of buying, quantity doesn't mean much to me, but when I see something I'm interested, or if I'm looking for something specific, I use all the tools available to me so I can make an informed decision.

I’ve wanted one of Tom’s hats, preferably a fine Panama, but they rarely show up used. I found this 7 3/8 in Anaheim (not sure if seller will ship). I wonder how accurate the colors are rendered?
