I responded in the other thread, but I'll just do so again here; it's gray.

Very interesting look, especially with the brim binding. That's the first such I've seen. I'm also interested in seeing natural light shots of that one. If you could post some, several of us would be interested. Thanks in advance.

This one is their signature teardrop. I know Graham will be getting a different one soon.

Cloudy is good for outside photos. They diffuse light and you get accurate color.

I have one of the few of Optimo's new teardrops. It's a little taller and maybe a little straighter, but honestly, I'd have to see them side by side to see a big difference.

Not really, when your other options are fake milans......

Well said. My godpa raised me with the mentality that it's better to pay a premium for the genuine item, than to ever settle for less.

Anyway, the now that it's daytime again here, and it just stopped raining, I figured it'd be the perfect time for a photoshoot.

Very nice, GH. I am fascinated that your hat's brim is bound. I have never seen a milan with a bound brim. I'm liking it, especially the width of it, and the gray as well.

And I, of course, agree with you and Tomasso that it's always nicest to have the finest. I definitely didn't mean that Optimo's milans or any of their other choices aren't worth the price.

Now, what about a head shot?

Now, what about a head shot?

I'm shy when it comes to taking photographs. I can never understand how some people can have like thousands of pictures of themselves on Facebook for the world to see. =P

No really, I'm terribly unphotogenic. I hardly take any pictures of myself unless I'm with friends, and even then I have to be coerced into being in the shot.

Trust me, I'd like to take a photo for you (because that would mean I actually have a picture where I look decent! ;)).

I might do one sometime though. It's not a definite "no pics" type of thing; I'm just not fond of taking self-snaps.

I just noticed something somewhat odd with my Optimo: the width of the brim varies around the hat.. in the front it's 1 7/8 or 1 3/4, the back is 2 1/4 (which is correct), and the sides are almost 2.5".

This is my first Optimo, so I'm not sure if it's normal.

Mine is the same, except the front is just over 2". When I was looking at them in the shop i noticed how brim widths varied in the same hat and requested that the width in the front be at least 2". I'm a long oval, so I suspect that has something to do with the brim being wider on the sides.

The edge is unbound.

It is that way because of the way the straw is woven. In the past when I order a milan from Optimo I request a brim width of X when measured at the front.

So.. if I went with a 2.25" front, my back is going to end up being 2.5" and the sides will be almost 2.75"?

Does this apply to their panama and felt hats as well or just the Milans?

I'm not sure about that; I'm a round oval and it's wider at the sides too.

I just found it slightly surprising that the front of my brim is under 2 inches when it stated 2 1/4" I thought that 2 1/4 would be the minimum width, rather than median.
Oh, OK, then welcome to the world of artisanal goods. ;)
