Sometimes I feel sorry for the Veterans who served in the Pacific. One has to remember the Pacific was America's priority. Omaha was indeed bloody but so was Tarawa Island. In three days of fighting the Marines lost over 1,100 lives ! The losses were so heavy the Homefront was horrified. The public called for an investigation (remember this was WWII not now). That was in 1943 before D-Day. If one gets a chance one should read "With the Old Breed" by EB Sledge. It is a graphic portrayal of the War in the Pacific. I don't mean to downplay this thread as Omaha was indeed important.

we have comcast cable and the package we have doesn't have that channel. maybe someday they will show it on BBC or national geographic.

about the pacific, both of my grampas were in the pacific, one was in the army in the guam area and all those little islands. the other was Navy in the aleutians on a destroyer. in fact, only one family member of mine served in the ETO. everyone was in the PTO.
