My good friend and vintage WWII A-2 jacket aficianado John Chapman, has just announced the launch of his latest enterprising project, the latest in a small exclusive global club of vintage flight jacket makers, the GOOD WEAR LEATHER COAT COMPANY.

John is bringing years of knowledge, experience and love for the A-2 flying jacket, in recreating jacket models from a spread of wartime manufacturers, that include Doniger; Aero; RoughWear, Dubow, United Sheepskin and Bronco...and that's 'just for starters!!'

READ ABOUT IT HERE:
http://cornellsurgery.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1007&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

A-2 Jacket Nuts are on CLOUD NINE over the attention to detail of his very first flight line of models!! (see some pics below).

This is an exciting time for John, but also for all of us out here who love and appreciate what makes a good jacket a GREAT JACKET!! When it comes to the archetypal and iconic wartime A-2!!!

WINGS OVER AMERICAN JOHN!!! I'm sure we all wish John Good Luck and Good Hunting!!

John's jackets are awesome. I have a Doniger on order with him. This is a very exciting project and I wish him every success.

WHEN the A-1 is added to his inventory, well...

I'll probably pull the trigger!!! using some of those fine hides he has, and knowing John will be 'dead on detail' with small pockets..etc, it's gotta be a winner!:eusa_clap

If this works for John, let's hope the rest of the more established vintage jacket makers start raising their game!:eusa_clap

For those of us not members of the other forum... May I please inquire as to the details?

Would some kind Soul be able to cut and paste from the other board?

I'm worried about joining too many boards, lest I never gat any work done again!

The perils of working from home!

Kind regards, Rufus

Hi ,I ordered a Bronco from Good Wear leather Co. I have to say John knows all the small details to pull off an exact copy of the originals. On the other forum we call it 1942 in a box.I will post some pictures when it arives.

Thank you ,Todd M.

He's a dark horse, that Chapman.
I knew he'd been far too quiet for far too long.

He's the one.
He doesn't have, or need any of the excuses or limitations of the "other vendors". Zippers aside.

Well done John, that D. Doniger looks fanastic.

Having had a chance to wear many of his "test jackets" which were outstanding I placed an order for a goatskin Bronco. I can attest these are the finest repro A2s I have ever seen. I have owned them all ELC, Aero, Buzz and RMNZ and none compares to John's Goodwear jackets. Good luck John with this project.

Side-By-Side comparison of original and repro GoodWear...

John (Brad was off that day [huh] )models his repro Doniger A-2 alongside an original Doniger. I know what 'I think..' but...What do YOU think?[huh] [huh]

Bear in mind too, that the original is 60+ years-old!! The repro is freshly made.

Take away the patina of age and the insignia from the original, and even if I were a betting man, I wouldn't be putting money on an ability to tell the two apart. Sharp looking jacket!

OK, I'll flip all the cards here and say that I'm expecting a pre-production Bronco from GW any day now, done in "Battle Cattle," a very grainy steerhide. Will report fully when it arrives.

Sorry Fletch...Who's GW?

I like the term "Battle Cattle" though...Sounds "Rough and Tough"
