Picked this up on ebay yesterday... it looks to be in very good shape. Looking forward to seeing it in person and trying it on. Based on the measurements it should be just about a perfect fit.

Pretty good copy of a post WWII peacoat except for the three panel back, but I could live with that. That's a good find.

If JanSolo were still active on the board, he could tell us if it is German or Dutch. Maybe another of our German friends will see this post and let us know.

Nice. A typical European double breasted coat, made in the thousands in the mid 20th century. That pattern is similar to the later German police coat. Pretty sure they were still being worn and made into the 1970's. I like the scalloped yolk.

So it arrived a few days ago, but I've been too busy to update the thread. Here's a few pictures:

One small defect, on the left sleeve above the elbow.

Looks like a U-shaped cut into the leather, but it doesn't go all the way through. This little patch is very stiff and feels brittle. I think I'm going to treat it with Pecard's to soften it back up, and if needed I'll reinforce the cut with some stitching. I wonder what could have caused this, though. Any ideas?

Rather than stitching it you could glue a small leather patch on the inside, it would be less obvious and probably just as strong.
Just make sure you use leather glue, or at least a good contact adhesive that stays flexible.

How would I get past the lining in the sleeve?

Hmm, could it be the reason it feels brittle now is due to an old glue repair?

Exactly, just unstitch the lining just enough to get your hand in.

And yes, if someone tried to fix it with super glue or something like that it could make the leather brittle.
That may be what was done. There's a seam inside where it looks redone, probably from when this repair was done.
