New Member to the Hat Forum

Hi. New member here I´ve had a thing for hats since my teens. First it was Stetson "cowboy hats", but in the later years I´ve come to like Fedora types.
I find hats are insanely overpriced where I live, and most quality hats are too big for me, so I´ve never really had any until recently - .. Which brings me to why I joined here; I want to know more about my finding, but do I just start a separate thread, or is there a "Identify my hat" thread?
It´s labelled Rousselet, but to the best of my knowledge, that company is long gone, and the hat looks in too good a shape to be pre 1934, so I´m confused.

Only saw this posting just now. Welcome to the lounge first of all. Rousselet is a German brand, despite the French sounding name. If you look on German Ebay you'll likely find some hats by them there. The brand has been around for a long time, but the hats branded Rousselet are likely from the sixties or seventies and made by another manufacturer who bought and used the brand name. Here's one of their homburgs (didn't win that one, dammit).

I’ve always played around with hats since childhood, but in recent months I’ve taken it to the next level from lurking on this forum! I’m also a big fan on vintage/period fashion in general.

My hat roster currently includes an Akubra Fed IV (in my avatar), Fed IV Deluxe, an Austin Reed Panama (made by Olney I think) which I have heavily modified, a fairly modern second-hand Bates top hat, and just recently I bought a cheap baker boy to see if I liked the style, before taking the plunge on a Cordova or Simonds etc cap.

I’ve yet to acquire a truly ‘vintage’ hat, partly due to my unfortunate large head size of 61cm or so!

I’ve customised many of my hats, making my own bows, cutting brims, and making my own head shape block. I was thinking of sharing my experiences of doing those things on existing forum threads I've found, if that would be of interest? Though I’m not sure of the etiquette on bumping old threads on this forum?

I think there would be great interest in posting your experience. There are lots of folks interested in bettering their skills in ribbon/bow work. Also the expense of getting a block is a stopping point for many here in the Lounge so if you have a self made block folks would love the see it. There is a quite new thread...Hat Making & Millinery that might be a good fit for those topics. On the cap front I have 8 or 9 of AmiCharnel's great caps. They are top quality tweeds, very well made, with some great features. I think he is now living down in Devon or Dorset. Check out his webpage. He has been ill so check his health and deliver times up front.

I didn't find a "new member intro" section, so I guess I will just post here. Hello.

I was on here years ago...I put in my email and the password that I remembered using...and it worked.

I have a fairly large collection of fedoras and ivy caps. The most comfortable, in my opinion, is my Bailey Lavalee. I did have a leather fedora custom made for me years ago. It was a leather fedora with a medium-sized brim, and it was dyed metallic silver. It really looked like a chrome metal hat on my head. Unfortunately it got thrown out accidentally when we cleaned the apartment years ago.

I don't know how often I will be on here. My other hobby is diecast cars (Hot Wheels, Matchbox) and it takes alot of my internet time. But hats are an interest too, so I hope to have some interesting interactions on here and learn some things. Bye for now...

Like a lot of other new members, seemingly, I'm a long-time lurker who has picked up nearly all my hat knowledge from trawling the Lounge forums.

A couple of years ago, I decided I wanted a winter version of the battered straw hat I got at a charity shop about ten years ago and worn throughout every summer since. At this point the word 'fedora' was not in my vocabulary!

So I picked up a cheap wool one to see if I felt comfortable wearing it out and worked up to my first 'proper' one a couple of months ago. It's a Mason Trilby by the Susquhana Hat Co (they're discussed in a few threads on here so I won't go into detail) and I love it! Super comfy, goes with everything and suitable in any weather England is likely to throw at me.

I'm quite spoiled for hat shops and vintage places round here, which will hopefully still be the case when we're allowed to venture out safely again.

Until then I'll have to be content with learning more and enjoying the photos of your great collections on here!

Hi folks, just thought I'd say hi and upload a quick pic. I'm Steve, an ex croupier who now uses those skills for good as a professional magician. I also have a hat addiction and I am close to hitting the 30 hat mark, I only actually wear about 6 of them out these days I'm not crazy.

For those wondering why I'm inside in my Christys Panama, I had to wait for my partner to get ready so we could go out and enjoy the sun. I couldnt complain as she's normally waiting for me to choose a hat
