Hi everyone,

A while back you may remember me posting the question, "will a fedora look silly on someone 5'7" or shorter?" Well, my Jimmy Pierce Designs Indy fedora arrived yesterday and it is an awesome hat :eusa_clap -- my first fedora ever. Jimmy did an excellent job and the hat is extremely well made. :fedora:

With the above said, I thought, I should get some expert and honest feedback from the folks at Fedora Lounge. I've been a baseball cap guy for years, so I'm not used to wearing a hat with a tall crown (this one has a 5 1/2" crown, with Jimmy's standard brim dimensions). I think the hat looks good on me, but my wife is looking at me strange when I have it on and now I'm scared to go out in public with it on!

So, how does it look? Please give me your thoughts. I imagine I'll get used to the tall crown soon enough...

Thanks,
Steve

A tall crown is a tall crown, no matter how tall the wearer is. It looks fine on you. Scotrace is right, you will get used to it. Good lookin' hat!

It's a great hat and you look good in it!

Some folks just have to get used to things, others never will. My mother hates my Indy hat, and all my fedoras for that matter, but I wear them anyway.

It looks good. Your wife would think any fedora looks strange on her formerly cap wearing husband. But if you hadn't worn caps ever, and started wearing them, she'd think that odd as well.

With a bit of time on her, and your part as well, it will seem as natural any anything else you wear regularly.

I can only hope I'd look anywhere as good as you when I get a fedora, Steve.

I'm 5'8" and a bit heavy, so I'm wondering what hat dimensions I should consider.

If your photo was in black and white, I'd think it was taken in the '30s or '40s.

Steve, you look mighty cool in that hat, just hang in there. You and everyone else will get used to it, and soon enough you'll start getting positive comments from people in town.

Great lid!

It looks great on you. :eusa_clap

If you think it's too tall though, which it's not, you could always lower the crown. I'm sure you could easily hand bash a Diamond or C-Crown into it, but I really think it looks perfect as is.

Agreed! It's a great hat with a great crown, bash, and brim. It will look like a tophat perched there atop your head for a while. Soon, very soon, you'll get used to it and you'll start wearing it with more confidence. Once that happens, everyone will accept it, for the most part; well, at least everyone whose opinion you would respect.

It took about a year before I started wearing a hat every day.

I think it looks fine!

This one is brown (and lovely), now of course you need a gray fedora:) Have it shaped with a 3/8"-1/2" lower crown, and a slightly different crown shape giving the appearance of a little taper from the front, with the option to be able to match the size and dimensions you have now. Then you can compare the two.

I found that I (and my wife) preferred lower crowns and more taper at first, but as I got used to the appearance of wearing a hat at all, the preferences changed - higher crown, less taper.
