Ffs! Well, I fully expect PhotoBucket to go down the tubes sooner rather than later. I don't mind companies charging to switch so late in the day and with so little to offer in terms of enhanced service, I don't see what they have to monetise.
I will resort to Tappa talk and photo uploading. It makes sense.

Some better pics of the area in question from 3 different makers, 3 different cross zips:

Vanson:

One thing I've always appreciated on a cross zip is a snap at the bottom that connects the two sides and reinforces the zipper at its weakest point. Bates and Langlitz do it and @Monitor had it on his j106. Setting that snap first might help insure the two sides align perfectly? I don't know and don't really care tbh. Certainly not enough to outshine the merits of the rest of the jacket(s).

Wow, that vanson is way off. When i spoke to vanson about a custom jacket they said they could add the snap. im in 100% agreement about having the snap helping the bottom of the zipper. My vintage bates and langlitz both had them and the bottoms of the zippers were in way better condition than my not so vintage vanson. Im a firm believer that it helps. If it wasnt on a jacket i would have one added. A snap is alot cheaper than replacing a zipper.

I agree. The Vanson is unusual too. It's cut longer and the zipper starts out much higher. when worn though the despairity between the panels is meaningless and doesn't really amount to anything, functionally or aesthetically. At least for me.
Plus it's important to remember the cross zip basically lays one half of the jacket over the other. It's a very different way of closing the jacket compared to a single straight zip or button closure and likely infinitely more difficult!

Oh that's actually really neat. It does probably make it really secure
Yeah I believe it takes a lot of the stress off the zipper tape, when sitting or bending with the jacket zipped. Simple little detail that can preserve the most fragile part on any jacket. Especially the heavy leather ones.

Dang, that Johnson one is spot on!!!
Yeah. Alan and co can sew a jacket to the nuts! But tbh that little detail doesn't really have any effect on my overall feel about each one of them. These are my top 3, as it were, and they all have small flaws and incongruent features that honestly make them all the more endearing and unique. Like a birth mark or something. I couldn't pick a favorite. Believe me...I've tried!
