Aloha gang! Been finding this site popping up in my google searches for the last year or so. Started to realize I might have found a place with some common interests as me!
I'm sort of writing my first post as call for your collective wisdom. Have had a fedora hat for years, was my soul mate of hats. Then my great dane puppy got a hold of it, and sigh...here's whats left:

I took the measurements:
Brim: 1.5 in.
Band width: 21 ligne
Height:From brim to top, 4.5 in.
Crown: a cross between "C" crown/center dent
Brim Edge: Underwelt
Bow: Two Loop Bow
Size: 7 3/8 (est. I have a different fedora that is 7 3/8, but its much snugger than my old one)
It was made by Fox Hats in St. Paul, MN

Is there a standard name for this style hat? Or a well known hat maker that shipped this style out to places like Fox Hats, or would Fox Hats made and designed this hat? Been having a hard time finding anything close on eBay, and so far I only know of one place that will mold it and make me one (unfortunately a bit more than I can afford!). So if anyone knows anything that might be helpful in my hunt for a replacement, I'd be very grateful!~Adam

Since your brim is 1.5 inches, that would make it a stingy brim. I don't know of any of the hat companies today who make stingies but someone must be as all the musicians seem to wear them. You could have one custom made, and that would cost you from 300 up. A lot of the fellows follow ebay and have scored a lot of hats there. We have been seeing a lot of stingies on the lounge lately so they are definitely out there. You should be able to snag one of those for under a hundred. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Thanks for welcome and the tips. Yeah, I've noticed the stingy brim is hard to come by. For me, I'm finding the hardest thing in the shorter top and the top dent. I'm tall, so I don't need to add an extra inch to my height with a 5 1/2 top!

You shoulda seen the photos of the remaining pieces of the hat. He removed the brim with precision! Amazingly, the darn thing popped right back into its normal shape despite being pawed and drooled on into an unrecognizable mess. The hat was quality!

Oh, btw, does a higher beaver felt quality make the material shiny or have a gleam to it? Noticed a few hats on ebay, and didn't know if it was a lighting issue or if those hats have like a gloss effect in light...

Try Akubra

Man, I hope it wasn't on your head when that happened!

I saw a hat of similar dimensions just the other day in a soft olive green colour in a little country store. I can't remember the make but it was from the czech republic. It struck me as unusually tall for a trilby.

Aussie hatters Akubra do a few different stingy brim, trilby type hats and you'll find that they are all pretty good quality felt (rabbit) and pretty good value in US dollars too. There are a few threads on here covering the best places to order from.

My brother wears a "Hampton" which has a slightly wider brim than yours and a lower crown. He's about 6 foot 4 with a size 60 noggin and it suits him well.

They also do a similar one called the "trilby"...

and a more jazzy little one called you guessed it, the "stingy brim"!

They all seem pretty similar to me, the main difference being the ribbon and the edging.

If you did want something with a bit more crown, you could always buy a fedora and trim the brim. Even if you get a pro to do it it shouldn't cost a packet.

Miller Hats has a selection of very stingy brims - maybe you can find something close to your baby here:

The Fraser, Northview and Cortland all have a 1-1/2" brim (man that's small, are you sure that looks good?)

PS - check out the unusual and cool ribbon treatment on the Lawton, also a 1.5" brim

Wow. Someone around here had a hat catch fire a while back. Makes me think we need a Hat Disasters thread.
