New Aero back designs

Undoubtedly these are beautiful jackets, but I can't help wondering if we're not seeing them through the stylistic lens of the moment, when everything is unusually short and tight (the current Pee Wee Herman look). How might the jacket look five or ten years down the road?/QUOTE]

A small handful of posters on The Fedora Lounge are vintage clothing enthusiasts. We own, collect, preserve, and restore vintage clothing, including leather jackets. Many of us are interested in new leather jackets that look like old leather jackets. Since deadstock jackets are difficult to obtain, we turn to companies that specialize in recreating vintage designs.

We like horsehide because horsehide was used then.

We like short jackets because (some) jackets were worn shorter then.

We like fitted jackets because (some) jackets were worn more fitted then.

We like two-toned jackets because two-toned jackets were produced then and nearly impossible to find now.

Some of us are vintage clothing enthusiasts, some of us are leather jacket enthusiasts, and some of us are both.

Given all that, where is the belt on the half-belt supposed to be on your body? Two-toned are cool, to me. Short and fitted are great, as long as the cut is right to my eye...

On a sport coat or long jacket it should be at the level of the natural waist. On a short jacket it needs to be higher or else the bottom panel is too small and will look weird.

Here's a jacket from The Big Sleep:

Personally, I'm not overly worried whether or not the fit of a jacket is period accurate in terms of length. Fits change and shift to suit our overall look. As long as it holds on to the overall sense of the original style and feel but looks good in current context- every day wear- I'm fine with it.

I agree completely with what Sloan is saying here. A 30's HB worn with contemporary low rise trousers is simply too short in the body and doesn't look quite right.

Here's an easy fix for that problem. Don't wear a 1930s half belt with low rise trousers. ;)

Well..don't wear 'high waisted' pants. Probably 'medium waisted' at the most as everyday wear..so..I just order a little extra length to wear the jacket with 'anything' (afterall custom order is Aero's forte'). Versatility makes better sense to me. [huh]

Can't imagine somebody in 'prison-fit' trousers, if you know what I mean, wandering in and demanding an extra 10 inches on a half-belt.:D

If the half-belt sits on your natural waist ( that's two fingers or 1" below the navel on most men )you won't be far wrong for most looks ..... and get a little more room in it, that way you'll look like you've bough a jacket that fits rather than one which fitted when you were 18 ! IMHO

Or you can get the 1940's wartime look and have the adjusters as chest adjusters because you trousers stop just below your rib cage :) :) :)

It's such a PERSONAL thing fit ...... buy what feels and looks comfortable TO YOU ...... after all,, who are you wearing the jacket for !

You seem to be saying two opposite things there, PL.

Firstly, you say we should buy the fit that YOU prefer (although I seem to recall a number of folks judged all your jackets to be too big, and the halfbelts were WAY too low)....

And then you say it's a personal thing, and it's up to US.

You've got me beat, mate.

No .. read the post .... if you get a halfbelt which sits on your natural waist you won't go far wrong.

BUT

Fit is a personal thing so do what you like / is comfortable and that will be fine.

It isn't hard ..... it's not even difficult ... do try to keep up at the back !!!! :) :) :)

You just used a new set of words to say exactly the same thing.

1.Do what I do......(and get a BIG jacket)....

2.It's personal, so do your own thing......

Do try to keep up at the front!:D

yup .. I haven't changed my opinion .... there is only one particular caveat you missed.

I NEVER said "do do what I do" ..... however I did intimate " do what YOU want to do !" ... there is a VERY important difference.

I'm done responding to what I did or didn't say ...... wear it how you want, but if you want a pointer you won't go far wrong if you get the halfbelt to sit on your natural waist ... that's where it was designed to sit ( the clue is in the belt bit .. and we could go into the etymological root of the term but believe me it would serve NO PURPOSE !).

Toodle pip ... :D

Don't think I've seen anyone trying so hard to explain why their many oversized jackets actually do fit(dammit) and all others are just surely silly small and even disproportioned. It's as if no one else can focus their eyes to look at the photos really right somehow. The continuing insistance of how right these jacket specs surely are...yet how wrong others wear them. I might understand if someone prefers to wear a jacket that way..but to then keep on keeping on that this is the way it was meant for everyone to wear them kinda goes beyond..'I wear them this way cause I like them like this'.

Hey Rudie-

I actually bought that jacket to which you refer, I think. Are you talking about the dark brown size 40? If that is the one you are talking about email me at polygraphmark@gmail.com and I will send you the pictures you seek.

Hi polygraphmark, on the Aero sale page it said size 42, so you probably have another one. Or is this jacket yours: http://archive.is/w1FF? If yes, you have an incredible jacket!

I assume this is aimed at me HD .... clearly I've hit a nerve ... and for that I apologise ..... wear them how you like them man, wear them how they're comfortable feck even wear them backwards. I don't really care .....

BUT equally, don't TELL me how to wear mine or weather it fits ME or not ... that's my call unless I ask ( which I will do nicely) unlike some of the individuals on this forum !!!!!

Could y'all please stop that kindergarten bickering? Everybody is entitled to wear a jacket in a fit that fits for them. No matter if others think it's to loose or too tight, too big or too small. Just enjoy what you like and let others enjoy what they like.
