Man I was tormented by one of these in November/December, don't know how I managed to resist. I was mainly looking at the Buzz Rickson as I could return it easily to their UK store if it didn't fit. Bronson make a great value version as well apparently. GLWP!

Both Bronson and Bob Dong have the N-1 and altered N-1. There are lots of Japanese brands too. Houston comes to my mind as a comparatively cheaper Japanese brand.

This above one from Houston is made in Japan. Houston used to be made in China but now they have this Made in Japan collection.
Oh just came across this denim N-1

i think you should bite the bullet spend the cash to get just what you want. im digging the IH and dehen. i am looking at a dehen varsity jacket for myself next. non custom jacket like this should have better resale compared to taking a beating trying to flip a custom aero or similar. i usually get back about 40 to 50 percent what I pay.

As pointed out above, Aero do indeed stock the Pike Bros version (you need to go the the "Aero Clothing" page, and scroll down past the knitwear and the trousers). Having handled a few, I think the Pike is probably what I'd go for: the overall look is right, and even if there are bits that aren't accurate to specific contracts, the overall vibe is period accurate. The only real criticism I've ever heard of any of the Pike Bros jackets is that they can be "over-engineered", but then if you want a functional, utilitarian jacket fr clothing rather than for the most accurate Living History costume.....

Note: I've never handled the ATF stuff. I have handled other, cheaper bits from the likes of WPG. As a rule, I find it's often worth spending a little more on something if it's a Winter weight jacket; I don't know whether it's a way of saving money or a nod to getting the look right but not being uncomfortable to wear for the lads attending military shows, which tend to all be in the Summer months, but I find the budget priced stuff is often nice enough otherwise, just nowhere near as warm as the mid-price and up.

......and while I enjoy a good enabeling, i will say that buying a deck jacket will cut into your time with the Browns which is to quote Ferris is “so choice”
I considered that...I really use the Beach cloth for work only though. This could be the weekender if you will. Been looking at several different makers. I suppose I should’ve expected it but man there’s just a myriad of options. I’m really looking at the Buzz closest. Right in the middle price wise and I’d love to kick some business HPA’s way. Either way I’m taking my time and gathering a list of what I like. Certain things are a must. Storm cuffs, thick pile or Alpaca liner and a throat latch.

For a new N-1, this would be my choice. Unfortunately, the company is perpetuating a common misconception in saying this jacket is "Khaki" in color. It isn't khaki, it's olive drab.

While I'm sure you're correct, I'm partially color blind & can't really tell the difference:). That said, it's also available in Navy(or is that black:), albeit at a bit higher price.

The Dehen version is on my shortlist, but it is pricey. Probably why it is still on a list and not hanging in my closet.

I like the Buzz Rickson version you are looking at also.

For those who already have an N-1, how warm are they? I mean, I wouldn't expect them to be the same as a parka, but what temps are they good down to?

I assumed they’d be fairly robust. The pile liner, storm cuff and mini shawl look good for staying toasty. Good question though.

I have an A—2 Deck Jacket, which is basically the same thing as the N—1 as it has the Alpaca lining. I wore it yesterday. It wasn't that cold, maybe a little below freezing. I wore it doing light work (not much moving around) and was fine with a cotton shirt and a cotton T shirt. Had it been colder I would have worn a wool shirt, a down vest, or a polypropylene undershirt and I would have been good down to the 20s. Wearing all three and I would have been good down to probably zero. Watch out for those hands, though. Mine got really cold at only the upper 20s.

The Pike Bros easily does me for winter here in Oz but it only goes to low single digit Celsius here.

Here’s a leather variation from Y-2 leathers in goatskin. Not exactly an N-1 but they’re calling it a deck jacket.

Yes! I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s kind of an amalgamation of a barnstormer and N-1. Pretty sweet

Yeah man that’s exactly what it is. Like if my Buzz and an N-1 has a baby. I really like that. I bet that looks really cool open too.
