I'm really interested in you saying the roadster is a closer fit that the highwayman, I just assumed AL just preferred people to essentially size down and thats the way they did their sizing...so its actually a different cut?
You mean size UP, right? But as far as I can see - and I obviously can't speak on behalf of AL - with a roadster there's no need to size up or down. All I was saying is that when you buy one if you buy your correct size it'll be a fitted jacket i.e. not at all loose. Whereas if you buy a highwayman in the same size there'll be a lot more room in there.
I once heard aero Holly describe the 50s halfbelt and Hercules jackets as 'oversized patterns' and in my experience the same is true of the highwayman.
So in summary these jackets aren't the same thing. If you want one to pack a few layers under then you're better off with a highwayman and if you want a closer more fitted style then go for a roadster
