Another plug for Art...

Although I do not (yet) own one of his creations, I also highly recommend Art. Just from the pictures posted, his work is amazing and broad-ranging. The last time I talked on the phone with him it was for the better part of an hour! The man has a wealth of knowledge to share, both verbally and through his products. Only three other hatters that I know of come close to his level of expertise: John Penman, Marc Kitter, and Steve Delk. However, I believe Art has them beat hands-down for experience and diversity. Check with Steve and Marc for Indy-style (bare in mind long wait times as they catch up from the KOTCS orders), and John for Indys and other designs (he has several posted on his site www.penmanhats.com). All are highly recommended.

Would you like to spend a lot of money on a hat that disintegrates in a very short time, or would you like to spend the same money on a hat that's going to last 10, 20 or 30+ years, at which point you can pass it along to a grandchild - in other words, a long-lasting, high quality hat.

My hat troubles are over. :)
I am going to try this Art fellow some time in the future.
I visited the one hat woman in the city once again and she opened my mind!
Custom orders. :D
Tomorrow I am going to order a hat of the exact same style and build for less than half the price and at 4X fur felt. I assume the beaver will help its durability?

Thanks for the help guys, this forum is wonderful. :)

Unfortunately a week and a half ago I wore it out in the rain and its brim has become a mangled pancake... :( There is not even a hatter in the city that can lend a helpful hand to fixing it, the only milliner in my city was an old woman who tried to fix it but couldnt do it...[/QUOTE]

You can get it re blocked at the hatter in Toronto for a nominal amount. Or there is a blocking and refinishing service from Smiths hats in Edmonton. Further you can learn a major amount from the experts here on steaming it back to shape. Frankly I am a bit miffed at why it did not dry back to the original shape, I have a 25 Stetson and it finally got pretty soaked. Took me along time to expose any of my finds to the elements. I took the hat placed it on the crown turned out the sweat left the brim up and it dried overnight. It was snug the next day so I wore it all day and worked up a sweat in it. 2 days it was perfect.

The hatter woman was telling me of Smithbuilt hats!
When I order a nice fur felt 3X hat some day I will go with them I think. :)
But I just ordered a copy of my Depp hat in western fur felt.
Ultra durable! :D

Just a figure of speech.;)

Ah, it is a sentimental way of saying you want a long-lived hat. Makes sense now. I thought I was some strange mutant of humanity incapable of wanting to give my really old hats to as yet unborn future generations of shadowy Dewhursts.:)

Just got another vintage hat pretty wet today and let it dry as I stated before, A method I learned form the FD lounge. It dried true to form no issues. I would go with trying to pick up a vintage 3x beaver Stetson like you have and consider one of the premier makers like AF as his hats are 100 Beaver and you will definitely have no issue with that quality.

Yeah Mr. Paladin and Handlebar Bart...kind of feeling like I bought a ticket for a "three hour tour" on the S.S. Minnow or a ticket on the Sucker Train to Trollsville. Oh well, was just trying to help and maybe someone else can learn from the advice given by the gentlemen that posted advice here.

All Caliqo Hats are made by Magill Hat doing business since 60 years!

Hello friends and Lonnie,

First, I'd like to ask Lonnie (walter) why he never sent back his hat for a re-block and re-flange?
He was told that his hat has a lifetime guarantee as do all CALIQO hats, not including return shipping ($15) to Manitoba Canada from Montreal...

As for quality?
Magill Hat located in Montreal, Quebec Canada, has been making hats for almost 60 years. Specifically JP who makes all CALIQO Hats has been in the business over 30 years...
CALIQO Hats is Magill Hat's online presence and retail online outlet...
You can actually surf the Magill Hat Catalog @ CALIQO Hats
Magill Hat also has a website but it is not open to public trade, therefore you'll need to go through CALIQO if you'd like a Magill Hat (or buy it from a brick and mortar store)...
CALIQO has also been doing business on eBay sin Jan. 1998...

So there you have it, for LIFETIME GUARANTEE inquiries or any other questions or comments please feel free to address directly Scott Poet (aka, dba) CALIQO, 5273 Rosedale Ave. Montreal, QC. H4V 2H4

ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED HERE... :)

Hello friends and Lonnie,

First, I'd like to ask Lonigan (walter) why he never sent back his hat for a re-block and re-flange?

Oh yeah, here was our ebay communications...

Dear caliqo,

Hi Scott!

I bought a Johnny Depp hat from you a month ago and its brim has lost its shape and has become wavy and pretty ugly.
I was wondering if there was anything I could do about this to correct it considering I spent so much on it.
I tried to find hat repair shops in the city but there are none and no tailors who deal with hats so it looks like local help was out of the question, so I now contact you.

Thanks for any help you can give.
Lonny.

My reply:
so you wore it in a rain storm or two and it dried in a funny situation and not flat...? yes lonnie, please send it back and i'll have it reblocked and flanged for you free of charge and it'll be good as new...
i'll need you to flip me some cash to send it back, about $15, hopefully that is acceptable...

thanks lonnie!

Dear caliqo,

Hi Caliqo!

I recently sent you a message concerning my Johnny Depp hats brim losing shape.
I have managed to find a hatter(she was hiding!) and fixed it! haha! Good news eh!

However I was wondering if you had any more Johnny Depp style hats.

Thanks.

Lonigan.

It certainly does not feel like any wool I have ever felt, it appears to be legit furfelt, but it was not treated with any sort of water deterant or anything like that, nothing to even help it keep its shape so maybe that has something to do with it.
I was actually about to buy another from the same guy an hour ago but somebody made an offer to him for 10 bucks more...
Thing is, I dunno where I would find a hat the same style as this. :(
