hi everyone!

im new here but have been lurking around for some time learning from you all and reading. I must say your posts have been a comfort to me through my long hatless days :-D. I never realized a site such as yours existed until a few months ago.

I was always told my interests including old music and hats was odd and that i was a freak since im only in my 20s. apparently im vindicated lol. anyways after so many years of no hat i finally bought my first one off of ebay.

its a knox 20 from the late 40s or early 50s. I really didnt know what to expect having never worn a fedora before but when i opened the box it took my breath away. it is so soft and beautiful. Hasnt left my head except for going to work and sleeping since i opened it. I was expecting some sort of pariah status based on what i read of peoples experiences with fedoras but i have been surprised. Ive gotten nearly no bad feedback at all from anyone either in vegas when i go there or at home.

anyways heres some pictures of me and my hat.
hope to post here more often,
thanks again
Jesse

Hi, Jesse -- welcome to the Lounge. I have a Knox 15, so yours is one grade up from mine and mine is wonderful.

Yours has the "stingy brim" look that the younger crowd is wearing, so that is not only a lovely hat but it is right in style with the times. I recently referred a young man to the Village Hat Shop to get a stingy brim Sinatra/Rude Boy hat that had a short brim.

A really cool hat. Did you get the hat box with it? What a find!

From one newbie to another, welcome! I just wish I had your luck on eBay - so far, haven't seen anything there my size.

That's a fine hat, in beautiful condition. I'm glad it finally found a good home!

Cheers,

Bryan

hi you all thanks for the response, very kind
i think im going to like it here.
i had the funniest experience on the way home from vegas today. there was an african american fellow on a motorcycle riding in the lane in front of me. and at a stoplight i see him literally turn around backwards on his bike to stare at me in horror lol. literally for the next two miles i drove behind him he would turn around to gawk lol. i found it hillarious lol. then at the health food store i was buying food and the checkout gal called me sir X-O thats not a usual thing lol. God bless the hat :)

I got quite a laugh from your post! I patronize a number of hat shops in the midwest and needless to say, they don't see a lot of white guys like me coming in to shop for hats. (It must be the Italian side of my family...just ask all the sellers on eBay hawking "gangster hats!")

Although it seems to be changing, by and large, it has been the African-American community who have kept the hat industry alive these past four decades. My fellow shoppers get quite a kick out of the fact that a white guy can carry off the full ensemble complete with a fedora! My bonding was complete when I earned the nickname "vanilla brother."
