I haven't looked back , so this may be a repeat , but in the early 80s they started transforming . But who does Billy Gibbons remind you of here , just a bit ?

ZZ-Top-.jpg

Nice Open Crown there Billy ! ZZ Top , last I heard they were living in Memphis ... (Photo from early 80s , I think)
And does anybody remember the Drummer's name , the only one that hasn't got a beard ?

Billy Gibbons is the most famous alumnus of my high school, other than gdurand. He was years ahead of me. One night, I was at a formal dinner/cotillion type thing, and I kept looking at a guy with a long beard, formal dress, sitting at the end of my table. Those beards were not the norm then, and it took me a while to realize it was Billy. Just a year or two later, they started their MTV blitz, complete with long beards and spinning guitars. He was very down to earth and funny when I finally got up the nerve to ask him why he was at a high school formal. I believe his mom or another relative was on the board, and he was her escort. I love Jimmie V. as well, got to meet him and SRV a few times in the 80s in Austin. Underrated, understated, always cool. Frank

Wonder how long it took them to grow those beards?

Nudie suits ya think?

I remember them before this , during , and after . I remember thinking Billy bought his from Porter Wagoner , and Dusty may have talked Little Jimmy Dickens out of one , probably too small , or gotten one of Lefty Frizzle's old Sparklers . Frank looks like his outfit is New there and maybe Buckskin . They grew those beards fast , too . One time Dusty had one , and Billy didn't , then vice versa , but then they both did , and the next time I saw them they were LONG . Fandango , Tres Hombres , Deguello , and others are what I remember . And Billy seemed tall and skinny , then must have fattened up , I didn't recognize him later on , he looks totally different . Nice Hats though (except the strange shower cap looking things) , and Willie Nelson many times wore the bandana under his Sombreros .

I spotted a Hat called a Rock'n Billy (I won't mention the Hatter) ... Nice Looking Lid though ...

As someone who "seemed tall and skinny, then must have fattened up," I can certainly see your point, Michael. I'm still tall. I'll add my favorite ZZ Top album to your list, "Tejas," mostly because "It's Only Love" is on it. Still rocks, after all these years. We had a farm in La Grange for many years, so that Tres Hombres song was well-loved in my family, except for my grandma, who was too ladylike to approve of the subject matter. I still remember the "Texas Cathouse" expose series Marvin Zindler did for a while on our local news, which led to the famous Dolly Parton movie/play. I do miss Texas sometimes, but I can always listen to Billy, Willie, SRV, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jerry Jeff, and it all comes back.

Wow! Shipping to Europe: $110! Extra fee for a light soiled hat: $55 - medium soiled: $75 - heavily soiled: $95!

I sincerely hope, those price-politics won't rub off on eBay sellers! :D

Yeah , That Hatter is CRAZY HIGH PRICED ! But you know any others can make their versions and have . I'll do my own soiling for FREE ! I think that's for rich people with more money than brains ! Same Beaver (or bunny , or beaver/bunny mixed) Hat Bodies , just SUPER HIGH PRICED ! I know a Guy or two , or three , or more that can do just as well for a fraction of that .

parispal , shipping one CD to me in US is $23 , I think , but it comes from farther away , but $110 , No Way !

fruzzle , I'm a Big Texas Music fan , SRV , Jerry Jeff , Willie , Billy , and a Bunch More , I miss it , too . Country/Western , Blues , and yeah , Tejas is Great , too . Have you heard ZZ's First Album ? Whoa ! That 80s guitar spinning , choreographed stuff didn't make it with me , but it was the times I guess , I liked the earlier stuff better , Memories . Speaking of 80s and Texas , do you remember Joe "King" Carrasco and The Crowns ? Crazy stuff ! Trying to recall the name of a Great Texas Blues Guy I like , he has a daughter that's just as good , too . My mind is blank , I'll think of it .

I must have seen Joe "King" Carrasco a dozen times in high school. First guy I ever saw "crowd surfing" in person. Still got some on vinyl tucked away somewhere.
