Moths and Felt Color?

I have noticed that vintage black felts tend not (in my case none) to have moth issues. The lighter colors (grey, white) are most problematic. In my case it isn't the black or darker colors hiding the problem. Any opinions?

I have obtained two vintage hats off e-bay with moth bites. One was the light tan Stetson OR I did the repair thread on and the other is the flight grey Champ, a dark, almost brown fedora which was also afflicted though the dark color makes them invisible without close scrutiny. I know this doesn't help, its just my experience.

You have to look closer but the moth's don't care. I've got dark brown vintage hats with moth damage worse than any lite colored ones.

I believe you but in my case I have many black vintage felts but none with moth issues. I have looked very closely.

I think there is something about vintage black felts (or black felts in general). It could be that they are stored away better. All I can say is the 20 or so that I have no moth issues.

I have a modern light grey fedora that has just recently been hit by moths - fortunately only nibbles, no actual holes, but still very annoying.... They have made a small nibble too on the top of a light grey vintage top hat. All my others have been ignored.... including a couple of light ones, and beaver fur.... [huh] I did wodner whether the lighter colours were more attractive to them for some reason.

What do you folks do to make your hats less attractive to moths? I got some moths in my place and I haven't yet been able to shake the buggers out completely....
