Monster Bash Videos ... show us how you bash!!

I thought this might be a cool idea.

maybe we can each make a quick vid of how we bash/crease our hats.

some like an almost sloppy natural looking crease
some like a neat symmetrical carefully formed crease
a lot of us like both ...

whatever you do ... I'd like to see you doing it in motion

I also thought it may help get a better idea of the personalities of people I talk/type to pretty much every day.

I just now threw my phone up on a music stand ... hit record ... and filmed an off the cuff vid of me throwing in a couple diamond creases.

Well sir, at the moment these quite senior pizza-tweezers are completely occupied with renovating my home from floors to ceilings. Nothing had been done for 35 years, when I inherited the apartment little less than a year ago.

Some weeks ago I had the opportunity to start the job - so I've got paint on my hands, filler in my ears, dust in my nose and solvents in my blood stream! I have a hard time keeping felt and straw safe, and I just have time for occasional peeks at The Lounge. I'm afraid a creasing video will not be realistic for quite some time

there is a simple science that can go into creasing a hat if you want there to be ... I just wanted to get the ball rolling on a cool thread idea

hopefully someone will chime in and give us a rundown with some steam and all the works

... anyway ... in my travels through bash vids I found this ... some vintage David with a great idea for getting a nice center crease ... hope he doesn't mind me posting it here

I'm afraid any video I would attempt to make would take a while. I'm one of the people who prefer a symmetrical crease. Combine that with using a small boiler covered in foil as my steamer and you end up with a rather long process to get the crease the way I like it. Several hats have had me eventually walking away muttering "good enough..."

Well, Moon, I've thought about it, but haven't had the time to make something and put it up. Not certain exactly what I could offer other than to see somebody else crease a hat. I actually use David's idea for center creases, except I use a beer bottle.

YOUR process ... I'm very interested in it.
...and to log all these processes in one thread would be a great resource for future hat enthusiasts.
I would have loved something like this when I first got interested in bashing an open crown

But everyone has something a little different to offer... a little tidbit maybe someone else had not thought of that you find a no brainier ... Or even just a little piece of your personality that makes reading your future posts more relatable.
That's the stuff that interests me

I was going to do another with more detail and some steam but wanted to wait for some others to contribute first

When reading posts here on the Lounge, I often have an inner voice going - based on images and my knowledge about the poster. I know, David is of British descent, but I never "heard" him exactly like that. A pleasing experience for sure.

Offering up my supplemental variation on the basic diamond bash illustrated so nicely by Moon.

I'll include the drawing I sent Moon in case it isn't clear in the video
Of course doing this in a fresh open crown may require some steam to set some of the tighter parts of the pinch. Subject for another video I'd guess
