LOL, Steve! I actually did it three times. The first was perfect, but when I played it back, the radio was on and I didn't want to bore everybody with the news. The second one just didn't turn out right, shot-wise and bash-wise. The third is what I posted.

My point is that the shape of the open crown change a lot between hat models. The specific shape of the original block is often a very defining factor in the look and style of a specific model.

I don't say, that the job will not look good. The hat may very well obtain a look, quite different from the original look, though :)

You are so right, Ole.
Once I figured this out I bought multiple hat blocks and modified them to mimic the shape as close as I could to specific hat block shapes. In particular I didn't want to change the shape and character of a hat like a Stratoliner or Playboy. Part of what makes these hats so popular is the elegant shape their crowns have. If you put just any hat block in them to reshape them you're going to lose an important part of what makes them so great
