My favorite semi-local place is Yesterday's, in the small town where I spent most of my youth. The entire building is only about the size of a bedroom, but they serve the world's best chocolate phosphate! Also, the Malt Shop in the same town. Homemade ice cream and burgers made with real meat! Delicious!

Second best:

Airport Diner, Fredericksburg, Texas. Biscuits & sausage gravy for breakfast, blue plate specials every day, and thick milkshakes made from real milk and real ice cream.

The whole hotel and diner are 1940s inspired - gorgeous! Definitely worth a stay if any FL-ers are ever in that area.

The hotel has been there, maybe 2 or 3 years? Fairly new. Same guy who owns the Brewing Co. on Main Street. It is out at the municipal airport and I don't believe they've done a lot of publicity... but yes, it is a definite must! We've stayed there several times and are going back in August for a hangar dance - I can't say enough good things. I'll shut up now before you all think I'm on the hotel payroll. lol

I love getting a candy cane shake or a peanut butter&jelly shake at The Purple Cow...a somewhat 50s feel diner that has the most awesome shakes.
