Beautiful Disney David!

Picked up my new milan from Black Sheep Hat Works today. Hat is khaki with a brown piece of ribbon Bob found in his shop that he probably bleached, wine tie.

Mike, wonderful, I really like it.

Straight from eBay, this beautiful vintage milan from the Ecuadorian Panama Hat Co. of New York. I have no idea as to the age, the seller guessed 50's or 60's which seems to be in the general ballpark. The leather is in pretty good condition, but a little dry. The straw is in great condition, with a nice tight, uniform weave. The ribbon has some spots where it looks like double sided tape had been used to hold the ribbon down...this was also a factor on my vintage Resistol Milan. Perhaps a little woolite bath is in order, although I would really hate to do any harm to this ribbon, just because this is one of those ribbons that they definitely don't make anymore.

I wasn't really sure what to think of the pork pie/telescope crease, as I usually prefer a center dent or diamond. But it's starting to grow on me.

It actually reminds me a lot of Frank's hat:

If it's good enough for Frank, it's good enough for me!

Been told I should find this thread. Glad I did. :) Lot's of great stuff.

I have two milan hats. The first one is a Scala. It was my first purchase and all around beater I don't worry about.

My second, however is a vintage purchase from Ebay. It's a Rogers Peet. Could be from the 50s-60s, but would love to narrow it down. This one is my "Sunday Driver". The workmanship is excellent and attention to detail in the construction is very apparent. Don't build them like this anymore.

Better detail on the Rogers Peet:

Thanks for looking. :)

Sharp hat!
I've never bought a Milan before. It was hard for me to find one I liked at the price I wanted to pay. I finally got this one off ebay. A Saks Fifth Ave. in unworn condition. Not as nice as some of the others I've seen in this thread but a decent one with a brim size I like and the hat band really adds to it.

These gunmetal colored milans must have been enjoyed a good run in the 1950s/60s. They surface quite often, marked for many of the brands of that era. I have a Knox 15 variant. I seem to remember Brad saying that Sinatra wore a Cavanagh version. The double sided tape seemed to be a popular technique used to keep the wide pugs from falling in lieu of stitching. I haven't seen this staining before, but like many "scotch" tapes, it probably was quite acidic. I hope you have success with it. Great hat.

Nice lids JC and Jared.

I can see the tape stains your talking about on the ribbon Jared. Think a fix is possible but it won't be easy or w/o risk. Good luck whatever you decide, it still looks kool.
