Alan, congrats on that stunning hat! The Mac's really do seem like the cream of the crop. Those vented sweatbands make me wonder what other innovations might have come along if hats had continued to be as popular as they once were.

Casechopper, that ribbon is an easy fix on a beauty of a hat. I love the idea of those vent hole areas on the sweatband. I wonder, does it actually "breath" well? Or noticeably better?

I had the pleasure of handling a MachLachlan hat at an antique shop once. It was incredible. Not my size or style, unfortunately. These new additions are amazing!

I picked this one up probably a couple of years ago off eBay. A MacLachlan "Duke", made of black fur felt with a sort of velour finish. Bit of a kink in one of the front corners, which I haven't really attempted to fix. I don't recall it's exact crown shape and condition when I received it, though I'm fairly certain the crown was out of shape, but since then I've given it some minor reshaping to the crown, so not sure how close the images are to its original shape. Probably a metric size 56. My photos don't really do it justice, this is it:

I'd love any extra info, if anyone knows anything. It's too small for me (not sure why I bought it in the first place really), and I figured it's probably too sacrilegious to strip it down for the felt; point is, I'd be quite happy to part with it.

Not sure whether I should have started a new thread rather than adding to this existing one, but hopefully this is fine.

Mac Lachlan homburg. It was sold by the venerable Rogers Peet Company.

Black color
7 1/4" size
6" crown
2" brim

The embossed word "BROMLEY" on the sweatband has me curious, since the hat was sold through a relatively high-end establishment. I wonder if that is the model name or the last name of the purchaser that the seller embossed onto the hat. A couple of posts above, there is a similar vintage homburg with "DUKE" on the sweatband.

Thanks guys. I am very grateful to have stumbled upon this find. Mac Lachlan made profoundly nice felt.

Bowen... I hope that you become "Mac"netic and find one soon. (Of course... that goes for you too, Jim).

Told you i would be on the lookout for one of these. The Oregon-Holland exchange worked wonders here because the cooperation came up with this gem of a hat. MacLachlan homburg in blue. Size 7 with the brim at 6cm and the crown at a towering 11,5cm at the pinch. There was some debate wether or not this hat was actually blue (it does look quite black under artificial light), but in the daylight it shows its true colours. The hat deserves all the praise the brand has gotten over here. Wonderful felt with a lovely soft hand and the finishing is outstanding on the hat.
I'm quite chuffed with this and it's very pleasing to be confident enough to say that I think I'm the only one in the country with one of these.
