My latest Mac Lachlan. It doesn’t have a model or price designation on it, but here is a $10.95 price tag on the inside of the sweatband.

Approximately 5 1/2 inches open crown and two inch wide brim. The brim edge is different for me: it has a sewn underwelt, but it also has a treatment that resembles a Cavanagh edge on the top side of the brim.

Nice mid-weight dress felt that easily dry creases. It’s in very good condition; however, the seller measured it for me and said it was 23 7/8 inches in circumference. I can only assume that he used the outside circumference. :(

My daughter's Knox Tom n Jerry has a brim treatment like that.... looks like a felted edge, but it's a sewn underwelt.

I suspected they had a thin strip of felt that they wrapped the welt around.

You could well be right. On the underside of the brim there is a row of stitches that hold the folded over welt in place. Just inside of the welt there is another row or stitching that does not show up on the top of the brim. The stitching holding a strip of felt in place sounds reasonable. From the top of the brim it’s looks quite a bit like a true Cavanagh edge.

Photos below are the brim edge from underneath. The row of stitches closest to the edge hold the welted over double thickness of felt in place. The row of stitches right at the edge where the welt ends and the single thinkness of felt continues toward the crown could be what holds the strip of felt, or some other filler, in place. They were willing to go to some real effort to give it this treatment.

Excuse me if this has been answered before but I could not find anything. I have been seeing a lot of MacLachlan hats with these "notches" (dunno how else to call it) in the felt on the downside of the brim in the front. What is that for? Is that part of the Air-Vac ventilation or is the purpose for the brim to snap more down?

Howdy! Yes, they are part of the Air-vac “system.”
Now another question.... where have you been seeing a lot of MacLachlans?!!!

Thanks. Only on photos here on the forum is several threads. So how does that work? Those notches let air flow under the sweatband in? Isn't the sweatband attached to the felt in the front?
