I haven't logged into this forum in a while. What happened to Moon?
He still comes online and posts once in awhile, but not as active as he once was. He sold off the vast majority of his relatively large collection of vintage and custom lids, only keeping about 10? to wear in a regular rotation.

I don't believe his high opinion of Michael's work has changed.

He was eaten by a grue.

Nah, he bowed out of here several months ago, stating some dissatisfaction with the site's direction and timbre. Then he sold most of his hats (though he told me he held onto his Gannons) to buy more drum kits.

He pops in occasionally. Sometimes I jack around my wind trolley and take a picture to bait him.

OK. I was just curious. I don't drop by too regularly, but I've always appreciated his info and enthusiasm.

I posted this in "What Hat Are you Wearing" because, well, I'm wearing it today, but have been told that it should go here, too. Here goes: I received my (very early) birthday and Christmas present yesterday: this whiskey-colored beauty from Gannon. I couldn't be happier with the hat or with the process leading up to it. I doubt this will surprise anyone, but Michael was wonderful to work with.
Dimensions:
Size: 7 3/4
Brim: 2 5/8 inches
Crown: 4.5-5 inches View attachment 140397 View attachment 140398 View attachment 140399 View attachment 140400
Mine has been posted upthread somewhere but it's based on the Highwayman. 3" bound edge brim x 5-1/2" open crown, all natural beaver. 13/16" ribbon in Commando with matching 3/8" binding. Styled after the early Western dress hats, the style has become one of my favorites.

I think I've settled on ordering a Natural (color) hat from Gannon. Any recommendations on ribbon and trim color that would really stand out on a Natural? (ps: I'm not big on blues or purples.)

Don't have a pic available on my phone, but mine's upthread as well - maybe last Nov or so. My ribbon is Champaign.

That’s an incredible hat. The colors work well together and you look good under it. Congrats!

The Gannon natural I had commissioned has a matching gill ribbon treatment. I see the binding and ribbon as being more a champagne hue.

My natural has a "slate" ribbon that is kind of a plum/raspberry color with shades of grey/charcoal that appear depending on the angle of the light hitting it. The brim binding is called Belgian. Don't know if this is leaning too close to purple for you or not, but it goes with all kinds of browns, greys and blues; a very versatile arrangement.

I just received a whiskey-colored beaver felt Gannon, with antique copper ribbon. It took Michael a little while to find a dress-weight body to accommodate my request for a 3" brim and 5" as-creased crown, but he kept me in mind and finally came up with a body that would work. The hat was worth the wait! Great fit, very comfortable, and exactly as I specified. Needless to say, I am very pleased with this hat. Michael is a great guy to deal with and does fine work.

Hope y'all have a great day!

Great dimensions. The whiskey brings out the color in your beard. Looks good man.
Wear it in good health

Great hat. Your pics capture the color shift of the whiskey felt pretty well, too--from the bright, sort of caramel-brown, to darker, to olive. My whiskey Gannon shifts in a similar way. It can be tricky to photograph.
