Yes, his website is over the top. But, if you've ever known a PhD in English, they can really go off in a random direction. I think his website is just his outlet for his obvious gift and trained skill in language. It's got a New York outer borough edge to it, but hey!

I thought that might be the case, he is very articulate. Once you start writing, you can go very far I guess

I loved his comment about "reimagining Cervantes’s Don Quixote completely" and wish the interviewer had taken the conversation deeper.

I would believe it is probably the key take-away from the whole inteview.

And the blurb about his family. It is why I stated in another thread a couple of weeks ago or so that the interview opened up a small window into his noggin.

@AeroFan_07 picked up on it and described it well in his initial post in this thread. No idea how much the family dynamic has played into anything, just saying that it caught my eye in the interview.

That's a good point, actually and something I've been thinking about - So far everyone who phoned Stuart or talked to him in person, says what a great guy he actually is, how forthcoming and friendly his demeanor is compared to his online / email e-persona and I think it's exactly this - He's projecting some kind of idea of what horrible nerds leather jacket fans are and it's the kind of idea he hates, but when he actually gets to talk to someone from one of those dreaded unmanly internet forums, he realizes it's just another great person on the other side, equally enthusiastic about leather jackets as he is, so of course he's friendly. 'cause he met a friend.
Dunno, my theory but that's how it reads to me... I don't think he's phony over the phone (lol), hence people who have had direct contact with Stu think so highly of him - to the point of misreading the stuff he writes as something other than what's written, which is a pretty weird phenomenon in itself actually but that's okay too I guess.

Good point monitor. My take, he is not nearly as over confident during personal interactions as he is during his musings. Just some dude selling jackets.

Also, I won’t speak for others, but I don’t think highly of him. I don’t know him. I just think highly of his jackets. And you seem to agree with that at least.

I have a different point of view than many of the comments in this thread. I enjoyed reading his passion! Makes me want to buy a LW jacket.

Am I going to lay out two grand for a leather jacket? No. But I'll sure watch for one on the secondary market!

If I read correctly, he did not complete his PhD in English, he failed to make the grade and quit.

In the end Im happy that this didnt turn into an actual shouting match and people attacking one other. Even had some bits of humor and common ground. I know finding this on TFL doesnt mean much, but to extract the majority of this back and forth and apply to the real world...its nice. People are passionate even about silly things like jackets, professionalism and sales. All part of what makes us, us. Like I said, Im glad it didnt turn against one another. The criticism was aimed at the topic Stu/LW. We all have opinions and often very different ones. Thanks TFL members for keeping it on the actual target and not mudslinging against each other.

I appreciate that Stu was willing to do an interview to give another window into his lost world.

I like his jackets. I have one, I didn't buy it from him. I think it was a good value. It has the "stretch marks", they don't bother me. Since he's 69 years of age, I wonder what will happen when he retires, if the business will continue or not. I'd hope so. But I imagine it will change, if it does. It might be possible to find a like minded person who could be trained to do things the way he does them, but if he didn't find that person 20 years ago, it's probably too late now. Is LW a one-man shop, that's what I'd like to know.

I mostly ignore the attitude he puts into copy on the website. It's clear he has strong opinions on things, and little regard for people with different opinions, and little time for them. It's one thing to know what your purpose is and if you know your purpose, you know if you're right or not that your approach is on target for your purpose. But it's not necessary for everyone to have the same purpose. I can get why it might offend some people, and I'm not saying they're wrong to be offended. I'm just... like... I guess I could spend part of my life being bothered by a man who sews for a living telling other men that they're un-manly. But I can think of better things to do.

LW is not a one man operation right? Just add a social media / marketing / sales manager and someone who can run a business. Things might change for the better?

Maybe hes too much of a control freak and wants his vision alone to dominate it. But it really would be a good thing, because that website is trash. Can we all at least agree on that? haha. Its so old and terrible to navigate. Even just starting with that would be a huge improvement. Who knows, but Im with you on that.

@Marc mndt No, others definitely involved, to include the individual(s) actually building the jackets. One can argue he runs his business just fine, since it has been around for decades. It’s survived in a cut throat world by providing a great product (yes, I get it isn’t for everyone). He just doesn’t run it like some would prefer. sometimes that group includes me, but I’m in it for the jackets. It’s his baby, let him run with it as he sees fit.

@Guppy your last two sentences had me chuckling. Nice haymaker. Well done.
