James if I won the lottery, I'd splash out on an Ardbeg Double Barrel set. Not Irish but just the thing to have in the boot alongside this!

That model appears to be a day-tripper. Wonder if they have a weekender model. :p

You're right, the single bottle capacity severely limits enjoyment and doesn't take into account one's boozy friends. The weekender model would do well to be the size of a travelling trunk, comfortably carry a case of the finest and hopefully come with its own porter ;)

I polished off a bottle a Midelton "very Rare" this week.... Really good Irish Whisky...

However, I am poor so back to my Jameson black label.... Ah laddies, both work equally well.

Hello gents. I've been occasionally drinking Jack Daniels #7 for a long while when I needed spirits, but mostly because I didn't know any better and I recognized the name. But lately I've taken to wanting to sip whiskey after work with just a big chunk of ice and develop a palate for good sipping spirits. I've only tried one Irish whiskey so far, regular Bushmills and loathed it due to its heavy fennel/anise flavor. (A flavor I hate in anything it leaves its mark on.) I am afraid to waste money on other Irish whiskies if that is a common characteristic. Maybe I'm too American or too used to Tennessee's product... I find I like Canadian Club 12 Small Batch and Crown Royal XO. Even George Dickel #8, though it's a bit harsh. Recently tried some Agnostura 1919 rum as well and tasted mostly like drinking Schilling Vanilla Extract, but much smoother. ;-). If Irish is all flavored with anise, I will stop looking but maybe there are others that are free of this foul flavorant?

Try Tyrconnell or Connemara. Neither of them have that problem. Then again if you like Dickel......:p

Thanks for the tip. I'll look for those. BTW: Dickel #8 is the only one I've tried, and it has a pleasant orangey taste, but not as smooth going down as the CC12 or XO. After the ice melts a bit it's not bad.

Yikes! Well, the #8 was not that harsh. I've heard that #12 is smoother still. In fact, one quote I read was "Dangerously smooth and imminently drinkable. Much fuller and rounder than No. 8" but the same person also said #8 was "smooth" and I think that's only by comparing it to turpentine. The regular stuff sounds like it might be a substitute treatment for intestinal parasites. :)

That probably kills anything in the intestines----even the good stuff there. :p

I like Jameson. I keep a bottle on stock for making Irish coffee in cold weather. I go all out when I make it: two mixing spoons of turibinado sugar in a heated Irish coffee mug, a bit of dark roast coffee in the mug to melt the sugar. I break out the heavy cream and get to whipping in the meantime. I make sure it doesn't get too thick, then add a bit of sugar to perfect it. Add the shot of Jameson, then the rest of the coffee to the mug, grounding what is left of the sugar and mixing simultaneously. When the concoction is perfect, I add the cool, smooth whipped cream to the top. After a long ride in the freezing cold; taking the layers of gloves off my numb hands and making myself an Irish coffee to finally take a drink and feel the warmth spread across my chest is the most pleasant thing in the world. It's the cherry on top of a good ride, and a crescendo to a good day.

Jameson makes for a good whiskey sour too; I make them in a thermis when I have somebody impressive over; egg white included. :)
