You mean the select reserve black barrel?

Probably. This is the only thing I could find on a quick Google search of Jameson black label. (Has a black label like they showed me). If so, I had some last summer in NYC. Greatly impressed me with the taste. Have you had it?

If it is the same kind of Black Barrel then I have. It is a blend and I can tell it is but they do a decent job of aging that in sherry casks. It rounds out the flavor. It spent a little too much time in the bourbon barrels for me though. Too many burnt wood notes for me. Then again, I am a scotch guy so I am not used to a heavy char taste or even a light char taste for that matter. :p
For $37 you could get the Knappogue Castle 12 Year Old single malt. Give that one a try for comparison.

I had the Redbreast 12 and it wasn't unpleasant but if anything, just didn't have much character to talk about. Of course I drank the whole bottle to make sure. I drank Jameson too irresponsibly for too long, now I can't touch it, the standard offering. The one with the black label is a marked departure though. Very nice. If I were to reach for a bottle right now I'd be deciding between Powers or Connemara. Two very different whiskies at different ends of the spectrum. I better get both.

Between the two last ones, I would go for the Connemara.

I went in for the Connemara...sold out. I had to wait for the next afternoon's cup of coffee to get a pour of it. Ended up leaving with a bottle of (very off topic) Bulleit instead. Must be because I've been listening to so much country music lately.
