Wow, that was a helluva jacket! Looked like it fit you perfectly. What possessed you to sell it?

It was a heckuva jacket. And it sat here in the classifieds forever.

I’m just like many of the members here who buy and sell to make room for new acquisitions. I’ve got so many now (and yet another one coming in) I might have to institute a “one-in, two-out” rule.

Harley riders typically do not wear armor. I would bet that most 'heritage' type jacket sales in the US that go to riders go to Harley riders, with some Indian, Triumph, etc. thrown in (increasingly so). Further down that rabbit hole, I would say that most riders on big cruisers in the US do not wear armor. At least that has been my experience. I took the armor out of my Force. Feels better without.

I would say that most folks that ride without armor aren't sneering at those who do, just making a personal decision not to wear the armor. I do not sneer at the guys who show up at the usual bike stops looking like Jet Jaguar about to fight Godzilla. They can do what they want. Just as many who wear half-lids are not trying to make some political point, though some certainly are. Many just prefer no helmet and the feel of riding without a full-face, etc. And they are willing to risk it. I was that guy at first but now much prefer a full-face. I can listen to my music, etc. And if I go down hard my wife can have an open casket at my funeral. I am considerate that way.

Oh, sure - I don't mean to over-generalise. (Interestingly, when it comes to stereotypes, I've seen a lot of online posts from guys in MCs like the Hells Angels who are full on ATGATT, so...!)

I've always suspected that sooner or later full open face will be outlawed here on the UK, given that the chin is statistically the most likely spot on the helmet to have an impact in an accident. I'm quite a fan of the likes of a Motocross helmet or the Biltwell Gringo as a 'best of both worlds' option. Long as a wasp doesn't fly in there..... ;)

The Lesco CR I once owned. Beautiful marbled brown leather.

Almost identical to the only cafe racer I ever owned, right down to that yolk shape on the front, the pockets, and the B6 style adjustment zip at the sides. Sole difference is mine was black - and the label gave a 'Route 66' brand. Mine even had a zip-out liner - in quilted nylon. It was my second type of leather jacket after a Perfecto style and a cheapo-take on something Highwaymanish; bought it back in 2002 after the Highwaymanish lining wore out and the pocket zip broke (would have cost more to replace than repair both). As I recall it was also labelled Made in USA.... I removed a HOG patch and wore it a lot as a 'toned-down' jacket for the office, a Perfecto being a bit 'statement' for work. After awhile I decided it wasn't really me, and sold it on. I think the main thing was I just didn't really like the mandarin collar, at least not with a collared shirt, which it what I was wearing for the office. Ironically, I'd probably consider something like an Aero Boardracer again nowadays, but I'm long past the point of 'one black leather jacket P type for casual, and one black, plainer leather jacket for occasional wearing to work'.....

The thing that scares me is when I see young lads bombing around on their scooters in full-face helmets, but just in tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie. I wouldn't want to come off at even 30mph in just a tracksuit.

Not even any gloves, which would be a total no brainer for me. It puts the willies right up me to see anyone riding without gloves. Their choice, obv, but it turns my stomach.

Yip. See it a lot here in London. Folks riding with no protective gear whatever on a scooter when they'd never dream of it on a bike. Sure, if you go down, you're less likely to be trapped under a two-wheeler with a step-through frame, but otherwise, taking a spill at 30 will be the same no matter what. Maybe somebody should start a road safety campaign aimed specifically at scooterists?

Just purchased a vintage Schott 618! My first real leather jacket after deciding to upgrade from my H&M faux leather. I love it, but the length seems so short! What are your thoughts regarding the fit of the jacket? Seems like there's some experience in here, would love your input!

Congratulations on your purchase. It's hard to tell if it's too short because your shirt is untucked and we can't see where the jacket falls on your belt line.

As far as I am concerned, fits you perfectly. Man, I wish any cross zip'd look this good on me...

Thank you! Here's a picture of it zipped, shirt tucked...

That's the typical Schott cut; they are a shorter jacket by design. Modern, low-waisted trousers make them seem shorter, sometimes, that the standard 25" or so back length... You can find some jackets in this style that are cut longer to meet a low trouser waist, but imo that tends to make the proportions of the jacket design look all wrong. Try a pair of something like these - http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/usn-red-selvage-denim-jeans-1930s-us-navy-deck-jeans-product,19089 with the jacket... :)
