My LW peacoat I 've had for two 2 years now look and fit great too. It's 3 oz horsehide, lightweighted (a bit below 2 kg) and as durable as hell.

I've had 4 .. a Lost Worlds (2006) and three Schott 740's ( early 00's) ... all GREAT jackets. The Lost Worlds was a fabulous piece of work but was a little big at a 44" ( it was cut very generous) so it got moved on, I'd buy a 42" in a heartbeat. The Schotts are GREAT jackets and can readilly be picked up on Ebay for £100-200 which is a bargain .. they're quilt lined just like the 740N's in Wool and are built on the same pattern. The Steerhide is a bit lacking in character but is pretty indestructable and really durable ... I wore the heck out of my Black 42" and it hardly looked worn at all.

If you can pull off a wool Peacoat then you can pull off a leather Peacoat and it's dressy enough to wear smart/casual in the office.

I'd be willing to bet Johnson Leather from San Francisco can make you a fantastic custom leather peacoat, at a price to beat! Don't let their website scare you off, I've heard they make an outstanding product, at a price point around 600-700 USD I believe. Made to your custom measurements, you can pick almost any hide out there (kangaroo, deer, cow, horse, goat, etc.) and they can make about any style you'd want to! They can even make you an exact copy of another jacket that you have or like. A project I'd still like to do someday, is send them a cheap, crappy $20 Chinese-made faux-leather jacket (but with a very cool look) and have them make me a high quality goatskin copy of it :)

I have a Johnson Leather FQHH Hercules and it is my favourite jacket. It is well made, and the hide is perfect. My next purchase will be another of their jackets.

Hey Roma:

Really like that combination Horsehide but lighter weight. Seems almost the perfect weight for this type of Coat. I had an LW Russet Downtown in 4 oz and it was pretty heavy for Tennessee. Even after 4 years it would still stand up on it's on.
I know what you mean. I have a 4 oz black Suburban. It weighs as much as twice of the Peacoat and I imagine how much a 4 oz Peacoat would weigh. But I think I would be happy even with 4 oz, although 3 oz for longer jackets is a better idea.
