Theres the Fujioka deerskin that has been used for garments,

kinda looks like grainy horsehides doesn’t it. I don’t know what the full size hides looks like. I have jackets from Japanese makers using this leather. Black isn’t quite black more like dark charcoal, and brown is sort of matte no horsehide shine. But wears like sweats, thick, soft, stretchy.

I’m still trying to figure out the best (economical) way to get these material. Sometimes timing is everything.

Also at some point I just gotta throw in the towel. Naked cowhides or oiled Moto chap leather tanned in California can look very similar if further washed and tumbled, and it’ll probably be easier than going through the process of sourcing these exact deerskin, so there’s that…

it’s shorts season now so I’ve got very little drive for jackets, but as soon as the first chilly day arrives I would probably wish for a Fujioka m200L haha…

Yeah despite going for the shrunken horsehide I did not feel that Johnson's 'standard' hides were any lower in quality or character. I think the standards are what they are for a reason.

Sure i noticed I don’t have anything in grey and im not sure i see many people with grey either so it was between grey deer or a grey bison 3.5 /4 0z i went with bison
That’s just regular bison, not the shrunken one, right?

And yes, grey is not a regular color that I see here or anywhere else.

It sounds like 2024 is the year of pronounced grain and non black/brown color on FL haha

Yes this is correct not shrunken me and Damon had a chat now that I have shrunken I wanted something with grand but would not need to be broken in as much so this is why I had asked about deer and he said he could get deer or a nice grey bison

I don't really have a preference so far, getting in this hobby was very educational in terms of colours, especially when I was tryiing to choose colours on a pantone deck for example. I like all the greys I showed you. The next grey I would like is properly what they call "battleship grey"

Edit:

Here's what it looks as a paint

It is different enough from this when seen side by side
