There aren't too many posts here (on the hat forum) so far today, so I'll add one that won't live long.

Today, on the BBC's site, in the In Pictures section, there's this photo:
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44799000/jpg/_44799137_hats_gp_466b.jpg
with the caption,

"A woman at the Isesa hat factory near Seville, Spain, helps produce traditional hats worn by Orthodox Jewish men. Isesa is the world's second largest maker of the hats, exporting about 15,000 every year."

Yeah, it's weak, but there's not much else on the board today.

I used to live in a predominantly Orthodox jewish area, and they have some very interesting hat rules. You can apparently tell someone's sect and family and level of religiosity just by their type of hat, the way they wear their brim etc.

The number of subtle differences that you learn about when you look into something can be quite amazing. To know someone's family by the way they wear their hat is really something.

Until I started lurking here, I thought there were fedoras and cowboy hats. I had no idea of the classes and subclasses of hat styles, materials, etc.

No, no... not the World's 2nd largest Hatter.

The largest maker of these hats could be Tonak/Hückel.
Maybe.

Another trivial bit

This is also from the BBC's site, and was submitted by a reader:

"In Chinese if you tell a man they 'dai Lu maozi', meaning 'he wears the green hat', it means that his wife is sleeping with someone else."

Though I'm in favor of green hats, if I ever visit China, I'll sport something a bit more neutral so as not to embarrass my wife.

What the reader wrote is absolutely true. Under absolutely no circumstance when dealing with Chinese people (and I would include visiting Chinatown here) should you wear a green hat. You might find yourself heavily ridiculed without even knowing.

Mine is Bigger

As someone who is fond of roadside attractions, I wonder where one can find the biggest hat in the world. Apparently, there's a book called The Biggest Hat in the World, but I doubt that it concerns this topic.

Here are a few contenders:

Can you find a bigger hat?

This is yet further evidence disproving James Powers' belief that an edge binding can never be to wide - it's fallen down around her neck! ;)
