Art, that "Bwana" hat looks nice, but I do think the brim needs to be a bit wider to be closer to the Granger hat that MDFrench is after.

Looks to me like SG did wear two different hats in KSM. I will have to rent the movie and see for myself. I bet they started the film with one hat and then switched to another.

I like your hat, Art, and will continue to watch to see what it becomes. The Granger hat is cool, but don't think that one would look good on me with my face shape. Too pointy on top.

Love that Big Hat. That brim is even wider than the old cowgirl hats worn in the rodeos back in the early 20th century. They also were floppy, otherwise they would be sombreros.

Check them out: http://www.cowgirl.net

I'd say the shape is much closer. The puggree probably will have to be made.

I don't think the hat in the movie had a double thick crown, just a double brim. I know I have seen one of thos hats before, I don't know how the extra brim was attached, though the crown was a single layer.

With the right color and Ribbon

Looks like you are getting there to me I like the swoop of this one alot better.
How wide will the ribbon be.

I think pure beaver is the only way to go no rabbitt at all. Width of brim and crown height did you come up with? :cheers1: Coke

TOUCHDOWN!!!! The crowd goes WILD!!!! (Mike does a silly white-guy dance)

Alls it needs is the right pugaree and a second layer for that double brim and then .... a little wear and tear!!!!!

Art is THE MAN! We are small in his presence! May his life be filled with good health and happiness until the end of his days!!!

:) :) :)

Art, that is The Hat! A lot closer to the one Mike wants, and yet uniquely your own.

And with that swoop, even I could wear it.

Oh, boy, I better get back to the Hataholics thread....

Just a question: I haven't gone back to look at all the Granger photos. Do you think that the Granger brim was cut a little larger front and back than it was on the sides, like the classic Indy hat was?

KD,

I'm honestly not sure if it was a dimensional brim. After seeing Art's Prototype Version 2.0 though, I COULD CARE LESS! That hat is going to look AWESOME with the right pugaree and a second brim. And after a few months of wear and weather in the summer heat - whoo boy! That's gonna be a DEAD RINGER for Granger's lid!

Oh, man! Time to sell my car!

Mike

Hi KD, I don't think so on the dimentional brim. Actually, there's no real way to know and I would resist it at any rate. I really DO want this to be unique and not to follow the IJ in any way.
MD, Thanks...I'll get on to the pugaree problem now that we have approval.

To my Master Bwana Hatter

Per your request sent more money to your Paypal account. JP won't notice for a month or so. :rage:
As I told you over the phone the hat sounds good now I see it looks great.

Art, Did you leave straw under wiper blades Tues night at our meeting or do you think it was Panamabob ? :kick:

Will it take about a month to source the ribbon ? Don't forget I want RDL in those little holes in the roan sweat please

The other post {Straw}

Hat meetings One hat at a time is our slogan

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had our meeting and had 17 people show up. Great turn out. The topic was self control. After about 30 minutes we said try to just buy onr hat/cap a month.

I said to self!! Hell I will buy one a month but order 12 more for the rest of the year. Makes sense to me. K.D. made it and she is really out of control. We all are worried about her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. She is the nicest lady. We all will call her on daily basics.

I asked her for credit cards and check book. She said No. I really don't understand.???

Meeting was over at 9:15 PM.

Sharpey the slipper! !

PS. Had straw on wiper blade this week!! ??

MD -- I agree! That hat is really neat. Just wondering about the original, which might be why some of us felt we were seeing a larger hat.

Now, I want one of those, too.

Sharpey,
I am still waiting for the felts to arrive and have spoken to a friend/supplier about the pugs so we are "on the way" but no specific timeline.

While I have been swamped with Montecristi's I HAVE managed to play a little "what if" with the design. I made up another "Bwana" in single brim using a color of Beaver that cannot be bought in 100% beaver dress bodies ( yes, I talked my felter into making a run for only me) and am about to introduce a little more sofisticated version in my OWN color. I took pics late last night before leaving the shop but using an older camera ( too lazy to get the new one out of the truck) and was unhappy with them when uploading so I will take more pics today for everyone's approval/amusement.

There's a catch, I only ordered 12 bodies of this color as it is an experiment. I am keenly aware that my taste in hats is a little more "out there" than most other conservatives on this forum so I can't invest in hat colors that nobody but me wants. My felter has agreed to "throw some in the dye vat for me" but only while he is already dying for western hats in that same color. In short, he won't do a special run for me unless I can make it worth his time, meaning large volume. Thus the experiment part.

I will edit this post with a link tonight when I get home from the shop. I REALLY think this is a winner but have been wrong before. ;)
